First, ask about client's expectations for massage session, prior experience with massage, preferences regarding pressure, priority areas.
I explain how I practice, especially the importance of working in synchrony with the breath, the various modalities and techniques I may consider beneficial, and ask permission before moving or manipulating a joint in a way that is not disruptive to the flow.

Find out medical history, past injuries, typical daily movement patterns.

I continually study to deepen my knowledge of massage modalities and techniques. I graduated from Finger lakes School of Massage in Mt Kisco, have taken many additional workshops and trainings in deep tissue, cupping, ayurvedic head massage, pnf stretching.  I also integrate meridian acupressure points and reiki into sessions.

I love that I can help alleviate pain, as well as empower individuals with basic, yet effective knowledge to improve their quality of life and prevent pain causing dysfunctional movement. Touch is such a primal healing modality within everyone's reach.

I love seeing seeing the expressions of surprised satisfaction and bliss on first time clients.  They unanimously say my massages are unlike any they have experienced in the past, and I'm very proud to add, very, very often they say it's the best massage they've ever had.

I give individualized, tailored massages to each client.  Recently a client who has had limited sensation in his feet, asked if he could linger on my table as he took in the new sensations he was feeling in his feet for the first in 20 years. He was moved almost to tears.   In this session, I only worked on his neck and shoulders.  

Find someone who listens respectfully and takes you seriously. Also, someone who is willing to explain what you can do to help yourself to avoid causing pain to your muscles and joints.

What expectations they have about massage in general, and what they hope to get from this particular massage. Ask about any prior negative experiences, areas they expressly want avoided that might typically be included in a regular massage session.

Ask questions that pertain to their particular area of focus, possible causes and prevention.
