How did you get started in this business?
My back ground is in patient care from my Naval service career where my passion to aid the wellness and recovery of people was ignited. As I became a fitness instructor, I saw the need to help relieve my clients of soreness and aches through massage.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with stressed clients who sought massage treatment for anxiety, and all body sizes from diverse ethnicities in the education field, nursing, business, entertainment and atheletics.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had the oppertunity to massage a client who didn't have a lot of time but was experiencing constant neck soreness. I am not a medical doctor that could diagnoise her or prescribe medication, however my knowledge of anatomy and the large muscular groups afforded me the understanding that massage treatment could help. She sat in my massage chair for 15 minutes and when she rose, she attested that the neck soreness was alleviated.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I would advise that customer to hire a massage therapist that they feel understands why they need a massage and can recommend the right modality of massage treatment which he or she needs that responds to their need. For instance if the client is stressed, he or she doesn't need a 15 minute chair massage or if the client is a busy individual and pressed for time, he or she does not need a hour long sweedish or deep tissue massage. I recommend that you find a massage therapist who can respond to the need you disclose.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
A client should ask do I need a massage or medical treatment, as a massage does not take the place of of more serious and needed professional medical care. A client should also think about the timing of their massage treatment as it is most difficult to relax when you have several pressure conditions at work in your life that may interfere with the mind's ability to disengage for the treatment.
