About

I'm often asked what kind of massage and bodywork I practice. It's a reasonable question... but there's no definitive label for a lifetime of touch and connection.

All the courses, methods and techniques I‘ve studied along with my interest in whole food, exercise, meditation philosophy and mindfulness have become integral to who I am and the service I offer.

At the foundation is gentleness and a knowing that everything has a place and serves a beneficial purpose, even when it's painful in the midst of it. I believe we each have the power within us to heal, to grow, to live in harmony with others and to prosper.

Sometimes we just need a little extra help and guidance.

I love being part of the changes clients make for the better. For some, their lives are set on a different course that they've longed for and - wow - do I love watching them go!

I am so happy that I was introduced to Brenda. Her kindness and caring were evident and her ability as a touch therapist is outstanding!

    Frequently asked questions

What to expect at our first session:

♥Beginning Discussion: we start by establishing why you want massage/bodywork and setting an agreed-upon plan of intent. I will introduce you to my methods and approach to supporting this intended outcome.

♥Treatment: during the table time, we may be silent or we may need to talk, depending on what is going on in your body and experience.

♥Closing Observations & Recommendations: It serves your progress to sit a few minutes after the table time to discuss your experience and ask your questions. I might also have observations and recommendations you can use in your daily life.

I quit an unfulfilling government administration job in 1978 to go to the only massage college in Canada at the time.

Since that excellent foundational training, I've continued to study and practice many techniques and approaches to helping with manual therapies.  My reach also includes medicinal use of essential oils and various mind-body disciplines.

Fees vary by service and payment option.  See https://www.atouchofwellness.com/mindful-massage-and-bodywork-services/

How do you know if a practitioner is qualified?

You can begin with verifying a massage therapist license.   In Florida, a massage practitioner must be licensed by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy.  This license number should show on all printed or online material that identifies the Massage Therapist.  The number begins with the letters 'MA'.   Massage establishments must also be licensed and that license, beginning with the letters 'MM', should be prominently displayed on the premises.

Once you've established a valid license, ask about training and experience relevant to your reason for seeking massage therapy.

You can also ask if the therapist is certified with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).   In addition, the two largest professional associations are Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP)  and the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).   A true professional will hold at least one of these qualifications.  Remember, in Florida the Florida board license is mandatory.

I hold four: both licenses with the Florida Board, plus national board certification and membership in ABMP.

Before contacting a massage therapist or other kind of bodyworker,  define what outcome you want from the service.

The needs and care provided are different depending on  the situation and the desired results

Recovering from injury or surgery is different from stress/anxiety management is different from chronic systemic conditions, is different from palliative and so forth.

The clearer you are about what you hope to gain, the easier it is to know if you and a practitioner would make a good team for your well-being.
