Tina Tongen has been practicing massage since 2008 when she was introduced to Ayurvedic therapies at Shoshoni Ashram in Rollinsville, CO. She received 1000hr certification at the Boulder College of Massage Therapy, 500hr AOS degree in Occupational Studies, and continued to deepen her skills with The Institute for Phenomenal Touch and Orthopedic Massage training with Whitney Lowe. I've had the pleasure of working with countless types of people, in many settings. She's worked within Boulder Foothills Hospital serving the Cancer Care and Maternity, the Boulder Vet Center to help veterans, volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House to care for the families of hospitalized children, helped college athletes boost their strength and performance at both the Boulder and Denver campuses of the University of Colorado, and of course attended athletes for muscle recovery after the finish line of runs and triathlons. For fun, she's volunteered in the massage tent at the Arise Festival and other musical gatherings to share the healing potential of caring therapeutic massage. For years, she regularly practiced clothed thai massage with friends at gatherings.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For new customers, we may talk for a few minutes or not before the session is booked. You will receive a client intake form to fill out before your session so when you arrive we can begin to focus on your needs right away. I'll greet you at the door, and then we'll sit down for a few minutes to meet each other and begin a pattern of good communication. This session is for you, and once I understand where you are, I invite you onto the table to sink into the warmth of the wool-covered heated bed of Amethyst crystals (Biomat) as I step out for a minute. I return with a clay hot pack for your neck and/or back, and encourage you to listen to your body and your breath, let go of what you don't need, and trust what wants to move. From here I follow my intuition, along with checking in on the level of pressure and type of contact is just what you need... I usually don't have to ask, as your body and breath respond with ease. During deeper treatment work, there is more communication and specific instruction to breathe into areas or resist and stretch, which can be helpful to engage old patterns and then release them. Active and/or passive assisted stretching is included in most sessions, based on your needs. I am expert at draping and providing you a professional session where you can let go of stress as I move you into thai yoga stretches. You will feel expanded after a Tongen Touch Massage session with Tina!

How did you get started in this business?
In 2008 I was living at Shonshoni, an ashram in Rollinsville, CO, where I began learning Ayurvedic therapies for detox and circulation. I loved working with people so much that I dove into massage school for 2 years and then continued with trainings to deepen my skills. The breathing that I find so valuable in yoga can be shared with my clients, as I help them return to their bodies. It's wonderful to help people feel great again!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with all kinds of people and did my internships at triathlon, cancer and maternity wards at Boulder Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House with families whose children were in the hospital, Boulder Veterans, and CU and DU sports. I learned a lot! My favorite is helping people heal through nervous system relaxation and breathing. I've offered massage at large events and festivals, small intimate events with a few friends, chair massage in public areas, and it's easy for me to offer tips to feel comfortable and respond to the body. Being Embodied is really a fun experience!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
What does the pro specialize in and what is their success rate in resolving the problem you'd like help with? How long have they been practicing, and in what environments? What is their rate and do they offer package deals?
If you are interested in being embodied, connecting to your breath and inner awareness, just let me know... I'll be happy to help!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is it that you want from this session, do you want to help relieve chronic pain, or is it a recent injury? Do you want deeply relaxing massage, or deep tissue therapeutic work? Is feeling more connected within yourself is a goal? Is it that you want to increase your pain-free range of motion? Do you want to relieve arthritis and joint pain, or reduce tinnitus ear ringing? If you suffer from neck and shoulder tension, would you like some tips to help cope with it on the spot?
How are you using your body every day and are you noticing your breath and body every so often so you can respond to your needs? Your body LOVES it when you do this... instant stress relief! 😁 It's simple when you get the hang of it and I can help you make sense of it all.
