How did you get started in this business?
My life has always revolved around health and wellness since I was a child. In a gym since I was 13 years old. In 1995 I took a Shiatsu Class. Life diverted me to other fields for some time then coming back to be a personal trainer, yoga instructor and then to my true calling as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
I work naturally with intuition as well as skill, training and knowledge.
The big rewards are when you help someone move better, get out of pain or reduce stress, anxiety & depression.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with age groups of 18-80 year of age. If under 18 their parent will need to sign off and be in the room with me.
I generally do not take males unless they are a referral from another therapist or have a valid doctors referral.
People with pain of all kinds such as head aches, pain in neck, back, hip, etc. Planter Fasciitis, Tendinosis, before and after surgery, chronic pain issues.
Anxiety, depression, focus, stress, digestive, hypertension, high blood pressure and other issues may also benefit from my work.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent woman had been seeing other therapist for cupping, massage etc. She has had pain in her Right shoulder for 2 years with difficulty lifting her arm. She also had neck and upper back pain.
She, in my opinion, had bicep Tendinosis. We worked with the bicep tendon, neck, upper back and pecs. After the first session she had amazing relief and was able to have more Range of Motion in her arm. Second session we worked more to free up the arm in other directions. She said" I have not been able to move my arm in those directions for 2 years. I am so grateful, you changed my life!"
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Sometimes you just have to try out a few therapists until you get the right match. Sometimes the first appointment is getting to know your body and needs. You will probably know if this is the therapist for you by the second treatment.
Sometimes you find someone that is a great therapist, like me, and you know you want to reschedule. Then you create a working relationship that is beneficial. You stick with it!
Therapy is not magic, even though sometimes on my table if feel like it is! It is a process and you will see progressive benefit.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What does their body need? Massage, Stretch, Strength? Relaxation?
What type of pressure do they like? light, moderate, deep?
How are you feeling about life? Stress & Anxiety levels? Tired? Insomnia? unfocused?
Was there a recent event of trauma, stress, injury that may have started a cycle that we need to unwind?
