Functional Massage Therapy
1 hr - 1 hr 30 mins
What Is Functional Massage Therapy? Functional Massage Therapy is a goal-oriented, results-driven approach designed to improve the function of muscles, joints, and connective tissues. Unlike general relaxation massage, this technique targets the root causes of pain, dysfunction, or limited mobility, helping your body move better and feel stronger. By integrating advanced techniques like deep tissue work, myofascial release, and neuromuscular therapy, Functional Massage Therapy aims to restore balance and enhance physical performance — whether you're recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or striving to reach your athletic potential. How Functional Massage Therapy Works Your session begins with a thorough assessment of posture, range of motion, and areas of tension or discomfort. From there, your therapist customizes the treatment to focus on specific muscle groups, connective tissue patterns, and movement restrictions. Techniques may include: Trigger point therapy Active and passive stretching Fascial manipulation Neuromuscular re-education Gua-Sha Clinical Cupping Pain Relief Ointment These methods help release tension, retrain muscle patterns, and improve joint efficiency, allowing your body to perform daily or athletic tasks with greater ease and less pain. Benefits of Functional Massage Therapy 🔹 Improved Muscle Function & Flexibility By addressing tight fascia and muscle adhesions, this therapy enhances muscle coordination and flexibility, helping you move with better precision and ease. 🔹 Pain Relief & Management Functional Massage targets the underlying causes of chronic or acute pain, such as trigger points or imbalances, offering relief that goes beyond surface symptoms — without relying solely on medication. 🔹 Enhanced Mobility & Range of Motion Feel stiff or restricted? Functional massage helps release soft tissue limitations, align joints, and restore natural range of motion so you can perform better in sports or everyday life. 🔹 Injury Recovery & Prevention This therapy supports post-injury healing by improving circulation, reducing scar tissue, and promoting muscular balance. It’s also effective in preventing future injuries by correcting faulty movement patterns and overuse issues. Who Can Benefit? Functional Massage Therapy is ideal for but not limited to: Athletes and fitness enthusiasts Individuals with repetitive strain or postural imbalances Those recovering from injury or surgery Anyone seeking long-term relief from chronic pain For maximum results, Functional Massage can be paired with other performance-based treatments, including sports massage and rehabilitation-focused bodywork.

About Deanna

Deanna DuBray is a Licensed Massage Therapist in Oklahoma with over 16 years of experience in therapeutic, clinical, and integrative bodywork. Recently relocated to Yukon, Oklahoma, she brings a results-driven, highly personalized approach to massage therapy, grounded in both advanced clinical training and intuitive care.

Originally licensed in Arizona, Deanna is also trained as a Chiropractic Assistant, giving her a deeper understanding of musculoskeletal function, injury recovery, and rehabilitative support. Since graduating from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy in 2009, she has worked in a variety of settings including chiropractic offices, wellness clinics, and client-centered practices, consistently focusing on pain relief, mobility restoration, and overall well-being.

Her work is centered on integrative therapeutic massage, blending multiple advanced techniques into each customized session. Rather than following a routine, Deanna assesses each client individually and tailors' treatment based on their body, goals, and condition.

Her specialties include:

Deep Tissue Therapy – addressing chronic tension and restricted movement

Trigger Point Therapy – relieving referred pain and muscular dysfunction

Myofascial Release – reducing fascial restrictions and improving mobility

Structural Integration (Rolfing-inspired) – enhancing posture and alignment

Clinical Cupping Therapy – promoting circulation and recovery

Gua Sha – breaking down adhesions and supporting tissue healing

Stretching & Mobility Work – improving flexibility and functional movement

Hot Stone Therapy – combining therapeutic heat with muscle relief

Relaxation Techniques – calming the nervous system and reducing stress

Deanna believes that massage therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Every body carries its own patterns, history, and needs. Whether a client is seeking pain relief, recovering from injury, improving performance, or simply needing to reset and recharge, her approach is to listen carefully, assess thoroughly, and deliver intentional, results-focused care.

Each session is designed to be both therapeutic and restorative, ensuring clients leave feeling not only better—but functionally improved.
