About

I am a warm, nurturing mental health counselor who cares about what is important to you. We are not just solving problems. My goal is to assist you in finding a deep sense of pride and comfort within yourself, developing useful tools that help you deal with life on life's terms, and peace and contentment with who you are and how you are able to successful cope with difficulties throughout your lifespan.

In our first couple of sessions, we will explore emotional, relational, family and self issues so you can quickly experience some immediate relief and feelings of hope. We will then continue to build resilience, sound coping strategies, an understanding of yourself and of others, the ability to communicate with others well that provide you with genuine feelings of peace and serenity.

I use a number of different counseling methods but as my client, you come before methodology, so I combine ideas and methodology designed to best meet YOUR unique needs and goals. We want to build success upon the successes you have already gained to build a life you are excited about living. Whether we are dealing with trauma, anxiety, relational difficulties, addictions, emotional abuse or painful losses, direction for your life or simply communication skills, we will look at our work holistically and through combining specific therapies to meet your needs.

Watching clients get relief from emotional pain and blossom into a peaceful balance with arms open to their world, is a reward in itself. I search for the newest in techniques and therapy ideas that work at the brain's neuro-network basis and prove themselves effective. Our brain is ever changing and it is within our ability to change negative thought patterns into emotional health and well-being.

I truly look forward to meeting you and helping you build the best life possible for you and those you love.

Frequently asked questions

In our first few sessions we will do a fairly intensive review of your life to-date, experiences that you feel have shaped you, relationships that are important to you, what your needs and your goals are for counseling, and what you want to see different and changed positively through your counseling experience.
I have been counseling for over a decade although I have been interested in the work of mental health counseling for most of my life, having participated in many different and varied aspects of working with people. With a range of successful careers over the years, my personal life experiences along with my education and experience as a mental health therapist, I am uniquely prepared to work with clients in varied stages of life. I have an understanding of many career paths, a breadth of life experience and circumstances, am familiar with family situations and family systems, along with the joy of experiencing my own emotional development and maturity, thanks to friends, family and some amazingly wonderful counselors throughout the years. I have found that each of these experiences has greatly increased my understanding of my clients, their careers, relationships, family situations, philosophical and spiritual beliefs, all of which adds to my understanding of life as a whole. I am creative, highly intuitive and intelligent with an excellent understanding of people, and the ability to relate with a variety of individuals from adolescents to senior citizens, varied family structures and circumstances and couples at all stages of life. I look forward to working with you as well.
I charge approximately $170. per individual, $ 185 for couples, but I also take some insurances and can provide you with more information on those when we talk. I also hold space for a limited number of clients based upon a sliding scale determined by income and ability to pay.
I have been interested in mental health counseling for most of my life. However I worked in a variety of industries, careers and levels of responsibilities that I believe has better equipped me for doing an excellent job as a mental health counselor because I better understand where my client(s) are coming from in terms of their careers, family-of-origin family experiences, as well as their current family dynamics. I believe it helps me better understand my clients' needs, personal and family struggles, their goals and dreams, and their philosophical world-view or belief-systems. All of these are important elements of each individual's life and experience.
An overview of clients and situations I have worked with includes having worked with clients who have experienced one-time trauma resulting from a serious accident or a natural disaster to complex trauma commonly experienced within dysfunctional families, families with addiction, mental health illness and physical illnesses. One of the most common difficulties I see includes counseling with those experiencing anxiety, trauma/PTSD, substance addictions, as well as those suffering from process addictions such as gambling, sex addiction, food disorders, etc.). In families, I have worked with families, single or divorced parents and with adolescent clients whose parents are together, or are going through divorce. Many of the individuals and couples I have counseled are experiencing a heartbreaking separation or divorce, and others are experiencing grief upon losing a loved one through death, illness or divorce. Individuals have come in dealing with low self-esteem, the inability to set boundaries that protect themselves, are struggling to understand themselves, or want to learn how to cope with difficulties more successfully. Many couples have worked with me to better their communication with one another, repair past hurts and re-build trust after affairs, addictions or other actions that have breached trust, or to just try to understand their differences better and accept those differences.
