About

I have been actively involved with therapy since 1984. I am experienced in working with PTSD in military veterans, other trauma and recovery issues, marriage and divorce, grief, depression and anxiety. I use a variety of methods such as meditation, self-hypnosis, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic therapies. I believe that my service stands out because of years of practice in being able to fit the therapy to the person and the problem.

What I enjoy most is seeing how each person uses their unique character and personality to resolve problems and grow through their challenges.

What I liked best was feeling that my emotions were acceptable. I was always angry. She helped me learn to dig deeper and see my real feelings. Now I’m more comfortable saying that I’m hurt, sad or scared. Barb can be honest in a way that helped me be better at being a father, husband, son. I used to blame other people for my problems and she taught me how to be in control of my own life and feelings.
She always has positive things to say, and she would push me in a way that was encouraging.

I like that whatever I talk about she doesn’t judge. She has taught me how to help myself and feel good about myself. I was able to manage my grief and stop being afraid of my future.
She is intuitive. She can be funny and upbeat when I need it, and quiet and caring when I’m down.

She is good at helping me feel brave about making important decisions. She helped me love myself even when I mess up. I feel accepted 100% by her.

I liked her positive attitude, honesty and genuineness. I felt that she listened to me at a deep level. I don’t cry easily, but she made me feel comfortable enough let go.

Frequently asked questions

I like to start with the client telling me what they think is important for me to know about them and their issue that brought them into therapy.  Then it works best to end with a discuss about what expectations/goals we can work on in therapy, and any other questions they have for me.

I have a masters degree in psychoolgy with specific trainings in PTSD, trauma and recovery.  Initially I took classes in biofeedback, which evetually led to training in meditation and selp-hypnosis.  I started out working with Vietnam vets who were chemically dependent and suffered from PTSD, and then found that people with other traumas leading to PTSD were helped with these same techniques.
