About

I have a passion for working with those rejected by family and/or stigmatized by society. My work addresses addiction, anxiety, depression and internalized stigma related to race, gender and sexual orientation. As a social worker, writer and community organizer, I bring a social justice lens to my work with individuals. I am trained to provide teletherapy.

I have had 12 years of experience as a social worker providing counseling to individuals marginalized by race and sexual orientation. In 2019 I became a licensed master social worker. I have received the following trainings: Trauma, PTSD & Complicated Grief; Telehealth for Mental Health Professionals.

This practice focuses on gaining clearer insight and self-awareness through the therapeutic process. Greater mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being is within your reach. I invite you to join me in a collaborative and affirming experience and lead the journey toward your best life.

I enjoy being of service and helping individuals to enjoy a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I feel honored when someone allows me to help them unlock barriers and give them tools to set their own path toward self discovery and clarity.

Frequently asked questions

I typically start with a short conversation with a new client, preferably a phone conversation. I am fine with texts or email as well. With the first conversation I seek to learn why they are interested in getting counseling. This helps me to decide if I may be a match for their needs or if it is best to offer to refer them to a clinician whom I trust.

I received my Masters of Social Work at Georgia State University. I have received training in trauma, PTSD and complicated grief, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and alcohol and substance use. Through my work at AIDS organizations I gained experience working with individuals who were HIV+ and/or stigmatized because of who they were.

I have standard fees for my services.

I have been in this general field for more than 10 years before I received formal training. I worked extensively with individuals living with HIV, LGBTQ people, seniors 60 and over, individuals in withdrawal and individuals in recovery. When I returned to school to complete my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I knew I wanted to be a clinician.

I worked extensively with individuals living with HIV, Young Black gay men, LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ adults, seniors 60+ at an assisted living facility, individuals in withdrawal at a detox program and individuals in recovery in DUI court treatment.

I would encourage anyone seeking counseling to first acknowledge their own courage in reaching out for support. I would invite them to be as honest as they can and tell them they do not have to even know why they need help. I would remind them that they deserve quality care and service and that they should not settle for service if they are not satisfied. It is important for those seeking therapy to trut their gut/intuition as well.

They should be as clear as they can about what they want to work on. They should consider if they are ready to engage in counseling, are they willing to make the time for themselves, and are they open to feedback.
