Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I ask all new clients to do a quick telephone screening with me. I'd like to know what your goals are for counseling so that I can get a general sense of whether I am a good fit for what you need. I will also do a free 15 minute "meet and greet" or set up an initial consult. I ask all clients to fill out my intake paperwork and bring to our consult.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My Master's Degree is in Marital and Family Therapy. I have been working between private practice, inpatient and university counseling services for the past 20+ years. I am a certified Gottman "bringing baby home" educator and teach mindfulness and run occassional groups and retreats.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My session fee is $120. I do offer a sliding scale in extreme circumstances for clients.
How did you get started in this business?
I found myself living internationally, working with students and feeling inept at helping them in the ways I wanted to. This catapulted me into my training program to become a counselor.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work with almost anyone! I help folks with family conflict, marriage challenges, pre-marital counseling, stress management, anxiety, depression, identity, transition and more. I'm happy to talk with you to see if I can help you attain the goals you have for counseling and if it's outside of my area of expertise I will help you find the right counselor.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It's very important to feel you can be yourself with your counselor. Nerves in the first few sessions are normal, but after a few meetings you should feel you can say absolutely anything and be yourself. If you don't, move on! You can often get a sense of this "fit" in the first meeting.
