How did you get started in this business?
I have been practicing for over 25 years and began my internship working in inpatient and partial-day psychiatric programs. This experience provided me with a strong clinical foundation to work with a variety of psychological issues and populations.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families and groups. I like to treat a variety of ages and issues and especially enjoy working with young adults between the ages of 18 and 30.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently received an update from a client who is now married and just had her first baby. I had worked with her in the past on developing healthy boundaries and assertiveness and was thrilled to hear that she was in a solid, happy, healthy, loving and rewarding relationship.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It is helpful to interview a few therapists before making an intake appointment. Most therapist will give a brief consultation to assist potential clients in finding a provider who is a good match.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
I would suggest asking potential therapists about their training to make sure the provider has a skill set that provides research based strategies to appropriately address the client's areas of concern.
Additionally, the client needs to experience a positive rapport with the potential therapist as that is necessary to establish a good prognosis for therapy outcomes.
