I reached out to over ten different therapist, I ended up scheduling with Dr. Anne Farina. I have struggled with depression for years. It was challenging to even get out of bed on some days. I have been doing much better, with the help of Dr. Farina. She has helped me with learning how to manage my feelings. I have more productive, happy days than ever before. I'm glad I chose Dr. Farina. It has been life changing.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We offer a free 15 minute phone consultation with one of our therapists for anyone who would like to do so prior to scheduling their initial appointment. Before the appointment, the client will fill out new client intake paperwork. The initial appointment is typically one therapeutic hour (45 minutes). The initial session with the therapist will be different from future sessions. The initial session is used for the client and  therapist to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature and focused on the treatment plan and goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Our Clinicians:

Anne Farina, PhD, LICSW

Dr. Anne Farina has 12 years of experience in the mental health field. She earned her MSW and PhD at Saint Louis University. She has been involved with community-based research and intervention research projects. Dr. Farina has experience working with adults, children and adolescents from a variety of backgrounds. Her main areas of practice include trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, chronic stress, attachment, family therapy and perinatal mental health.

I believe in a connection between mind and body and view mental health as a balance in this connection. My main approach for working with people impacted by trauma and developmental wounds is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. This approach helps clients reconnect with their bodies and find balance with the connection between mind and body, restoring a somatic sense of self. Clients also explore the ways that early life experiences and past relationships have shaped beliefs and how those beliefs cause challenges with current life and relationships. My work is guided by principles of anti-oppressive practice, acknowledging how complex issues such power, oppression, and powerlessness can impact our lives.

My work with families and children/adolescents focuses on self-regulation, relationship building, and attachment. The models used include Structured Sensory Interventions, Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, Theraplay, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment, Somatic Soothing and Play Therapy. I developed Somatic Soothing to help children regulate their bodies, thoughts, and emotions to function at home and at school. - Dr. Farina

Malika Bains, MS, LMHC

Malika believes, as humans, we have a core strength within us that helps us to power through all our life challenges. However, there are times when we feel overwhelmed with our emotions – be it trauma, anxiety, grief, unhappiness, or anger – and our core strength gets buried amongst the plethora of difficult emotions we are experiencing. In her therapy sessions, she creates a space where she can team up with her clients to process these emotions, learn coping strategies, heal our inner wounds, and bring back our inner strength to the surface.

She believes that therapy is a healthy partnership between the therapist and the client which helps in creating a comfortable and safe environment for the clients to share their challenges. A few of her therapeutic approach includes Internal Family System [IFS], Acceptance and Commitment Therapy [ACT], Motivational Interviewing, [MI], Trauma-Informed Care, and Cognitive Processing Therapy [CPT].

Malika has worked with diverse range of clients and offer therapy for following challenges:

  • Anxiety [Generalized Anxiety, Panic Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder]

  • Depression

  • Grief and Loss

  • Life Challenges [Finding purpose, self-growth, major life transition]

  • Mood Disorder [Bipolar Disorder I & II]

  • Distress Tolerance Skills and Strategies

  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder [includes but not limited to – Experiencing or Witnessing Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Violent accident, Natural disaster and so on.]

  • Multicultural Therapy [Challenges related to immigration, assimilation]

Malika was born and raised in India, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts with Psychology Honors and moved to United States in 2015 and graduated with Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. Having lived in two different countries, she has gained an insight into the unique set of conflicts and emotional distress that could arise due to immigration, assimilating to a new culture while simultaneously holding onto your own cultural roots, and balancing relationships while still holding onto their authentic self.

“I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you may have and I look forward to working with you!” - Malika Bains, MS, LMHC
