About
Ms Liz Rubin (LMSW, MA) is New York City based psychotherapist specializing in anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, and related mood disorders. She has a particular interest in helping professionals overcome emotional obstacles exacerbated by workplace challenges such as career transition and job overwhelm.
Her approach is built upon the bio-psychosocial model of human behavior and relies upon a strong foundation of empathy and trust. She helps clients incrementally gain insight into their past and how old behavioral and thought patterns can inhibit progress in their careers and personal lives. Over time, clients become more productive in the workplace and improve their relationships not only with others, but with themselves.
Ms. Rubin also supports families with children challenged by ADHD and autism. She develops strategies to help children strengthen self-regulation and change behaviors interfering with the demands of daily living. Her approach embraces concepts of positive reinforcement, Applied Behavior Analysis, (ABA) therapy, and best practices derived from Stanley Greenspan's Floortime model.
What I enjoy about the work that I do is the ability to be able to be the catalyst to help lift you from your depression, anxiety, issues with your career or children or relationship. I can't say that I do this work alone. We do it together. Providing empathy, outstanding listening skills in a safe environment creates an environment of safety. I also get satisfaction out of knowing that there are times when we can get to the heart of a problem very quickly and it might take just a couple of sessions to get relief.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I first will do a 15 minute free consultation to see if we are a good match. Then we will set up weekly sessions where we will discuss some of the reasons for coming to therapy. I will learn about your background and what you've been going through as well as a little bit of family history and anything else about you that you would like me to know.
During our sessions, I also focus on strength-based solutions. For example we concentrate on what is working for you and why that is working and how you have developed coping mechanisms that are both useful or maladaptive. We talk about ways of solving for some of those maladaptive behaviors and thoughts. I congratulate you for seeking help.
Takes a very strong person and a courageous person to want to initiate exploring the reasons for difficulties and suffering.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two masters degrees from Columbia University. I am also a licensed social worker. I have 20 years experience working in corporate America which helps give me a unique perspective on what people are going through in their work environment. I am very generous in providing any career assistance needed as well.
