Just to help people gives me satisfaction and the impetus to keep going. I work mostly with the strenghts perspective, building off my clients already existing strenghths and showing them how to transform those strength to function in all areas of life. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have used it to help clients overcome their fears and anxieties. With me positivity is the name of the game, if one learns to think positive then I feel its one of the rules of the profession that it will be reciprical and return back to him. A compassionate and empathic personality I feel can also be therapuetic for my clients. I have work...

Confidential says, "After working with Lara for just a few sessions, I finally have a better understanding of my trauma symptoms. I used to think that I was just hijacked by my symptoms and I really hated it. I actually have compassion for myself now, which I NEVER thought I would say! Lara was able to break down why I was reacting to things the way I was in a really understandable way and helped me utilize techniques to feel more in control of myself and how I interact with the people and world around me. We have a lot more work to do, but it is so encouraging to see shifts already!!!" Read more

You have helped Camila and I so much, and I know we are both extremely thankful for your diligence. Anna Norman Dr. Katz was very kind and accommodating. He kept lines of communication open for our 21 year old. He was willing to make appointments and attend his sessions independently.

Dr. Katz, is a very insightful, and unlike other therapist i saw in the past, he really cares about you as a patient. I learn about me during his therapy sessions. His fee is also reasonable . I highly recommend Dr. Katz to anyone in need of therapy. On Oct 1, 2015, 12:22:26 AM, Michael Shick wrote:
Dr. Ronald Katz is the best thing that ever happened to me. His patient, loving attitude for all my successes and failures gave me a firm base to pursue my dreams. His perceptive and suggestive comments paved the road for my recovery from alcoholism caused by family problems. I am now healthier and more productive than I've every been, and continue to remember the many wise things Dr. Katz had shared with me. I highly recommend Dr. Ronald Katz for his incredible understanding of how to approach me, who I consider to be a rather difficult person to win over. I guess the crux of it is that Dr. Katz knows when you're ready to hear the next truth on your journey--whatever that may be. I've found other providers to be less skilled at doing this. The other part of it is that Dr. Katz went through Psychoanalysis, which is the highest level of psychological understanding we have. So, he definitely knows enough to always keep you waiting and guessing for when the next revelation will come, only when you are ready for it, of course :PSI love Dr. Ronald Katz and you should too. Thanks I have known Dr. Ronald Calderwood for almost 20 years. His skills are impeccable as a psychoanalyst, and as a supervisor. life for me has changed in a more positive, healthy mental state of reflection and self understanding. Whether online or in person Dr. Calderwood’s knowledge base and skills are extraordinary. " Read more

I work with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, a painful sense of disconnection, challenging relationships, chronic anger/irritability or find themselves repeating unhealthy patterns or behaviors despite their best efforts to change. Over time these issues can erode one's sense of life’s meaning, and can diminish one's capacity to experience joy or express oneself creatively. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which helps us understand how formative experiences led to the development of these fixed symptoms and behaviors, and Bioenergetic Analysis, where breathing and movement can be utilized to bring to the surface emot...

Your Therapy And Counseling questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thervo.

How much does therapy cost?

Therapy costs $100 to $250 per session if not covered by insurance, depending on the therapist's experience or specialty, therapy type, and your location. Prices are on the high end of the range in major metropolitan areas like Los Angeles and New York. The average cost of therapy with insurance is $20 to $60 per session for the copay.

Online therapy costs $50 to $110 per week and typically includes support through texting, phone, or online chat. Some plans include one or two live video sessions per week with a licensed therapist.

Can therapists prescribe medication?

Therapists are licensed psychologists or counselors but are not medical doctors, and in most states in the U.S. they are not allowed to prescribe medication. Only five states allow licensed psychologists to prescribe medication—Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, and New Mexico—and psychologists in these states must complete additional psychopharmacology training and certification.

In the rest of the U.S., only a medical doctor can prescribe medication. Psychiatrists attend medical school and can prescribe medication, but they typically do not provide talk therapy or counseling services.

Can a therapist diagnose ADHD, autism, depression, or other conditions?

A licensed therapist can give a mental health diagnosis in all states except Indiana and Maine. However, the therapist must refer clients to a psychiatrist or other medical doctor if the condition requires medication. Consult a therapist near you if you have concerns about ADHD, anxiety, depression, autism, or other mental health conditions.

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) for therapy?

You can use your HSA or FSA for therapy if you have a billable diagnosis—such as depression or bipolar disorder—and the therapy is deemed medically necessary. You can't use your HSA or FSA for marriage or family counseling, grief counseling, or therapy for stress management.

Can I see my therapist while traveling?

You can see your therapist while traveling only if your therapist is licensed or legally permitted to practice in the state you're physically located in at the time of the session. Not all states allow interstate therapy practice. Check with your therapist before you leave to confirm they can provide telehealth services across state lines.

How often should I go to therapy?

Most therapists recommend starting with one session per week. After your first session, your therapist will work with you to decide on a schedule that will most benefit you. Some issues require only a few sessions, while others require more extensive treatment.

How can I choose the best therapist near me?

When seeking therapy or mental health care, follow these tips to help you find the right therapist for you:

First consider the type of therapy you'd prefer. Common therapy styles and modalities include:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Humanistic therapy
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy

Choose therapists who specialize in treating your condition. Then:

  • Ask for recommendations from your medical provider.
  • Read reviews on Thervo and Google.
  • Confirm the therapist is licensed to practice in your area.
  • Meet with the therapist for an initial session to make sure their personality and treatment style is a good fit for you.

What questions should I ask therapists?

Ask these questions to help you find a therapist who is the best fit for you:

  • How long have you been practicing, and what are your certifications?
  • What therapy style or modalities do you practice?
  • What is your philosophy as a therapist?
  • What does a typical therapy session look like?
  • Are you more directive or guiding as a counselor?
  • Do you give homework or reading assignments?
  • How do you determine success in therapy?
  • What is your success rate in treating past clients with this issue?
  • Will you see me if I run into problems between sessions?

I have been to so many therapists and gotten a lot of validation, but not much in my life actually changed. I was always left feeling stuck. I was pleasantly surprised that Lara is validating and warm, but also knows when to give me a gentle push to help me create the change I am seeking.

I liked that an atmosphere was created for the client to feel comfortable and to speak freely. The counselor asked "Open questions" which gave me the opportunity to express my anxieties while providing her with the opportunity to gather adequate information about my concerns. She displayed active listening skills and was able to guide me into making good decisions. The counsellor was frank and unbias.

I was experiencing a journey of difficulties and obstacles in my life that made me depressed, and I felt I needed to address the issues to find a sense of direction. Sabrina Hendricks was the counselor I selected after extensive research on the Internet. She has a warm smile, and her Internet site is welcoming, friendly and very informative. Ms. Hendricks has counseled me for the past six months for Depression and Anxiety. In her sessions, I have learned to live with more peace, get through the day more calmly and change circumstances that create negative reactions; discover my inner strength.

I cannot recommend Stephy more highly. She is phenomenal at what she does. I've never had a better massage in my 20 years of having massages. She will not disappoint you. And the prices are affordable which makes a huge difference for me. I can actually afford to get regular massages here instead of a once and awhile treat.
