About

Decades of clinical experience specializing in young adult and midlife struggles of individuals and couples (note: there is no substitute for wisdom). See website www.dorisbertocci.com or listing in Psychology Today. Offices in Irvington and Pleasantville. Evenings and Sat mornings available as well as weekday hours. Alot of your questions can be answered in our initial phone conversation, and even more can be clarified for you if we meet in consultation.

Regardless of where anyone is in their lifespan and life experience, I like to help clients develop clarity about "the important things" that are worth working toward -- and become freer from emotional clutter and symptoms -- so that they can experience more hope and pleasure for themselves. My creative streak takes the form of being an "idea person," meaning I can often bring unique perspectives and suggestions to bear on "old problems" in a new way.

    Frequently asked questions

We discuss the concerns that bring them to consult with me, and I ask a number of questions to fill in the important details I need to understand in order to make an assessment of their needs, and in order to explain what I believe would be most helpful to them in the way of treatment. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 meetings to reach the point for me to make a recommendation and for the client to decide whether they wish to continue with me on a more regular basis. Sometimes clients need a kind of service in addition to, or in place of, what I can provide, and I am happy to make a referral if the client wishes.

Trained at Boston Univ., followed by a long career in college mental health at Columbia Univ. (one of my specialties being young adults), with many trainings over the years in various clinical areas. I also specialize in working with people in high-conflict divorce, including custody litigation, and am knowledgeable about the local court system. I work with parents of dysfunctional adult children and, in several contexts, collaborate with a CFP financial planner. Another specialty is working with adopted adolescents and adults and their families. Am a published author in two fields.
