Shawnta (pronounced Shawn Tay) is the owner of Mindful Bodies, which is located at Northgate Mall in Durham NC. Shawnta has 5 other counselors who work alongside her at Mindful Bodies. The Mindful Bodies counseling staff consists of Licensed Profesional Counselors (LPCs), Licensed Professional Counselor Associates (LPCAs) & Masters Level counseling interns. The LPCAs & LPCs charge for counseling on a sliding fee scale and the interns provide counseling at no cost, $0. The Mindful Bodies counseling staff helps work through concerns, including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, parenting & couples issues, life transitions (divorce, adoption, retirement, etc), identity development, eating disorders and grief.

Shawnta enjoys helping people feel heard & understood. She is a catalyst for change. She helps motivate her clients to learn & practice strategies for thinking, feeling & behaving in more effective ways. Shawnta understands that change is a process, not a destination, so there will be forward and backwards movement in the journey towards change and sometimes there will be no movement at all but this is part of the process.
Exceptional professional supervision
I started attending one of the cognitive behavior therapy groups offered by Mindful Bodies in January 2016. Shawnta explained the process, concepts and materials in detail. I was comfortable with what I was allowed to share, I did not feel any pressure and the way the material was shared really helped. Shawnta is professional, knowledgable, friendly and warm. 3 years later, I continue to use Mindful Bodies services. I feel that I have improved in many areas and overall am healthier physically and mentally.
Shawnta utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Person Centered Therapy & Gottman Method Couples Counseling to help clients move towards their goals. The 1st step is for clients to contact her and she will schedule a phone consultation with them. If both parties agree to begin a counseling relationship, then Shawnta will schedule the 1st appointment. The 1st appointment will take approximately 90 minutes & the client will spend a few minutes completing intake paperwork & the remainder of the time will be spent setting therapy goals .
Shawnta has a BA in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hil (UNC)l & a Masters in Communty Agency Counseling from North Carolina Central University (NCCU).
