Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My typical process for working with a new client, involves either a face to face or telehealth conferencing meeting, so I can listen and get to know them and identify how we can work together moving forward. I ask a lot of open ended questions to get as much information about each client that I work with as I kind, so I can tailor my approaches to meet their individual needs and help them reach THEIR identified goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a doctoral scholar at Grand Canyon University and have just completed my academic requirements and have moved on to the dissertation phase of my doctoral program in behavioral health with an emphasis in organizational leadership. I earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science, World History and Sociology: Corrections from Minnesota State University - Mankato. Working in the mental health field, as a case manager, youth advocate, behavioral specialist and mental health practitioner I have been fortunate to work with a variety of cultures and with adolescents, adults and families and I am dedicated and motivated to increasing the life chances of those I work with.
My experiences have provided me with a unique insight, knowledge and skills that many of my clients would benefit as a mental health counselor/life coach that would assist them in developing basic life skills and improving their mental health outlook.

How did you get started in this business?
People have asked me what the inspiration was for me getting involved in the mental health field and the creation of ILC4Y.. To answer that question of how I got started in this field, it was not a what or why, it was a WHO?? My oldest daughter was MY inspiration for starting my journey working in the mental health field helping others.. Her battles, and her journey to INCREASE her life chances, changed my life and has allowed me the opportunity to impact the lives of others.. She was strong enough to make her future what she wanted it to be and so are you.. I am honored to be her father and I have not always felt worthy of it.. But she has always stood by me and I hope she is proud of the work I am doing in her honor now and why I do what I do..
What types of customers have you worked with?
I specialize in working with those that are survivors of trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, neglect, mental/physical abuse, domestic abuse, struggling with life transitions anxiety and depression and those needing just that little "push and guidance" to help them move forward toward accomplishing their personal and professional goals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Having an opportunity to speak before the Minnesota Office of Justice and Victimization regarding the disparities and inquality within the mental health services systems within the African-American community and providing FREE community based workshops in the community working to help demystify mental health within the African-American community and educate on why addressing mental health is vital.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Mental health is a relationship based business, find someone to work with that is capable of meeting you exactly where you are that you are able to connect with, someone that will LISTEN most importantly and partner with you to achieve results, not just focus on diagnosis.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Finding someone who can recognize who they are and can culturally responsive to their individual needs.
