    Frequently asked questions

When a person begins counseling, we discuss expectations and what counseling with me looks and feels like. Counseling is not an easy process. It takes courage to discuss private matters with a stranger. That being said, it can be healing and liberating to take the risk to learn new skills and perspective on how to navigate life.

My formal education is a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Master's Degree in Communication, and a Master's Degree in Counseling. I have been teaching, training and empowering folks for the better part two decades. All the while, reading and studying why we humans do what we do and how to navigate our lives.

Many folks access their employers Employee Assistance Plan to pay for sessions. Other folks pay out of pocket and get reimbursed from their insurance company. Typically, services run $100 per session. I also accept an adjusted price based on income and ability to pay. The goal is to help people feel better not for me to get rich. If you want to work with me, we will figure out a way to make it happen.

I have always wondered why people do what they do and I have a compassionate and caring nature. These two attributes lend nicely to helping others find their way.

I work with older teens, adults and couples.

It is always a joy to see people make connections or change a perspective that brings relief from suffering.

The two indicators that says counseling works are: 1. You have to like your counselor and 2. You have to do the work. Please continue to search for a counselor with whom you connect. There are many of us out there with different life experiences and approaches. When you do find a counselor that will work for you, know that you are more important than the counselor in you feeling better. The counselor leads you to water, you choose to drink. When we are willing to take a risk to try new behaviors, we make progress. It can be scary but absolutely necessary to create your new you.

Some good questions to think through before you enter into counseling are; What do you want to change and why? Who would you be if you were to make these changes? How would you feel if you were this new version of yourself?
