About
I have been helping people since I graduated from Grinnell College and started as a Counselor at the Minimum-Security Jail facility at Fort Des Moines in 1971. (Yes, I’ve been at it a while and plan to be for several more decades:) Over the years I have run programs for adults and juveniles with substance abuse problems, facilitated workshops with individuals and couples on relationships, worked as a Certified Financial Planner, and taught workshops on personal empowerment and holistic healing both locally and internationally.
In 1995 I began my private practice at The Center for Health & Harmony utilizing holistic healing skills I have picked up from a lifetime of study nationally and while traveling the world. In addition to counseling skills I am trained as a holistic bodyworker, breath coach and have studied many spiritual healing systems. This allows me to support people with a comprehensive approach that addresses mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
I love supporting people in discovering how fantastic and powerful they are. My experience is that most of us operate well below our potential. Over our lifetime we have suffered traumas and had mis-learnings which resulted in programs that sabotage us. It is exciting for me to see people as they release old garbage and their true gifts begin to shine.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually start with a free 20 to 30 minute consultation. This is designed to see if we are a good fit. A counseling relationship is based on communications and trust, so it is valuable for both people to feel comfortable. I also use a variety of modalities so it gives me a chance to explore what might serve them best.
If both of us agree then we will set out a plan of action. This can involve anything from a single session to a series of sessions. I usually work in two-hour blocks for each session to allow enough time to completely explore a topic with the client but can work on a one hour model.
