About
My style is warm and engaging, and my approach is direct and compassionate. I get to know you, support your strengths and resources, and help you find the best way to address the concerns you came in with. The therapy goals are defined by you, with your success as the ultimate goal.
Please call to speak with me if you have questions about how I work, and how I can help.
I love this work. I am an experienced psychotherapist with a private practice in San Francisco since 1986. I have over 40 years clinical experience with individuals, couples, children, groups and families. I have many years of postgraduate research studying empirically effective (evidence-based) psychotherapy, including training in contemporary psychoanalytic theories, family systems, and somatic psychotherapy. My work experience includes over 20 years supervising interns, teaching psychotherapy theory, providing consultation to licensed clinicians, and working in community mental health settings.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Let's find a time to talk on the phone for a brief assessment. I usually am available weekdays for phone calls. If I cannot answer, please leave a message with some good times to reach you. We'll find a time to talk about what you are looking for and how I can help. I find a personal call helps to smooth the process of getting started.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with training and experience in empirically effective (evidence-based) psychotherapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), contemporary psychoanalytic theories, family systems, and somatic psychotherapy. I know what I am doing. If I am not what you are looking for in a therapist, I'd be glad to help you find the right person to work with.
