About

My style is warm and engaging, and my approach is direct and compassionate. I get to know you, support your strengths and resources, and help you find the best way to address the concerns you want to focus on. The therapy goals are defined by you, with your success as the ultimate goal.

Please call to speak with me if you have questions about how I work, and how I can help.

I love this work. I have a private practice in San Francisco since 1986, and clinical experience with individuals, couples, children, groups and families. I have many years of postgraduate research studying empirically effective (evidence-based) psychotherapy, including training in contemporary psychoanalytic theories, family systems, and somatic psychotherapy. My work experience includes over 20 years supervising interns, teaching psychotherapy theory, providing consultation to licensed clinicians, and working in community mental health settings.

    Frequently asked questions

My style is warm and engaging, and my approach is direct and compassionate. I get to know you, support your strengths and resources, and help you find the best way to address your concerns. We will explore life-changing strategies in a safe space – the therapy goals are defined by you, with your success as the ultimate goal.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 40 years experience helping people with anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and difficulty coping with life problems. Whether you are looking for yourself or you and your partner, let’s talk about the specifics of what you are looking for and how I can help.
I charge $225/session for individual psychotherapy and $250/session for couple therapy. I do offer a sliding scale fee.
I was initially inspired by the work of many people in what was called at the time the Human Potential Movement, largely as it emerged at Esalen Institute in California. At that time, there were many forms of therapy and healing that were developed as alternatives to traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, including Gestalt, Somatic-Emotional therapy, Psychodrama, Body Movement, and the work of people like Charlotte Selver, Magda Proskauer, Gregory Bateson, Abraham Maslow, Alan Watts, and Aldous Huxley. From these beginnings, my training and education lead to my current practice.
It is difficult to "type" the people I have worked with. I have experience with people from many different backgrounds, cultures, ages, social strata, points of view, etc. My perspective is to be open to who you are right now, and to credit you with having come this far in your life, and to appreciate your seeking help to resolve issues that you are struggling with.
