Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It can take courage to ask for help, so I begin by helping you feel comfortable in the therapy situation. I take time to help you relax as I get to know you. I use the tools of active listening, mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy, communication skill building, and many other psychotherapeutic methods to help you move gently out of your current distress to a better place. As I learn from you, I can help you find your next steps.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master of Science in clinical and counseling psychology, 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist and years of teaching other community members and mental health providers what hurts and what helps, through National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) educational programs, and as a California state trainer of support group facilitators for NAMI.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My fee is $150 for a standard 55 minute therapy session. I offer a sliding fee for financial hardship.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for someone with experience, someone who has been doing this work for awhile. In this arena, experience is crucial.
