    Frequently asked questions

    My approach to counseling is...

    • Person-Centered: You are the expert on your own life. You know what you need and what is right for you. I'm here to explore with you, not to tell you what to do.

    • Culturally Responsive: Your identity and life experiences are unique to you. I strive to understand people as individuals living in the context of culture. I examine how my own cultural experiences influence my interactions with others.

    • Collaborative: The counseling relationship is effective when we are engaged, authentic, and honest with one another.

In counseling, you and I will work together to explore who you are, what you want, and how to get there. I believe that the therapeutic relationship - one characterized by compassion, warmth, and acceptance - is where healing and growth flourish, so we'll invest some time getting to know each other in our first few meetings.

I have a bachelor's degree in conflict analysis and resolution, and a master's of education in clinical mental health counseling. I have training in trauma treatment as well as the use of meditation in counseling. Before beginning my private practice, I served as a counselor for children in the criminal justice system and adults receiving intensive outpatient treatment for addictions.

My standard rate is $80 per session. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spaces each week, with fees determined based on income.

Through my own life experiences, I have developed a deep sense of compassion and appreciation for the struggles and beauty inherent in being human. I love connecting with other people, offering my presence and holding space as they share their thoughts, feelings, and struggles with me.

I've worked with people of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds, including those who identify as LGBTQ+, people of color, and individuals who are engaged in nontraditional lifestyles and professions.

It's not about finding a "good" counselor, it's about finding a counselor who is a good fit for you. Every therapist is different in their approach and personality, and it's worth it to take the time to research your options and explore who's right for you. Please reach out to me to ask me any questions you have, or to arrange a free, 15-minute phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit.

What are your goals for therapy? Would you like to work with a counselor who has a more structured/directive approach, or one who is more open-ended? Are you more concrete in your thinking, or more abstract and philosophical?
