Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is ensuring the client is comfortable and feels I am best suited to meet their needs. Starting with basic open-eneded questions to learn what the client feels is important to share is an excellent way to begin. After that it is identify what the client would like from me, and then what steps this may entail.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Sociology, Masters in Social Work, and am completing PhD in Psychology. I am a Licensed Clincal Social Worker in the state of California, and have thousands of hours of clinical experience. I hold Certified Clinical Trauma Professional level-II credential (CCTP-II), Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) credentials. I have worked with individuals of all ages struggling with anything from substance use and eating disorders to anxiety, schizophrenia, grief, and suicidal ideation. I am also EMDR trained.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing is negotionable to a degree, because I don't want anyone to be unable to get the help they need just because of money. I start at $100/hour and I am currently private pay only, no insurance at this time.
How did you get started in this business?
I have developed a thorough understanding of human struggle from a personal and professional perspective. Early on I made the decision to dedicate my professional life to advocating for those who face various social issues, are marginalized, and/or feel alienated. I believe nearly all of life's problems stem form some type of trauma, and so I approach every situation looking for the root of the issue rather than a "band-aid". My entire life I have had others come to me and ask my advice, and I knew early on I did not just want to be a therapist, but that it is my calling in this life.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with numerous populations, from 1 year-olds with autism to 75 year olds with major depressive disorder. I have worked with adolescents struggling with anger issues, trauma, and substance abuse as well as teenagers mixed up with gangs and struggling with drug use. I began my career working with adults struggling with substance abuse, then worked in behavior modification with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder, and currently provide 1:1 psychotherapy for adults with various social issues in a private setting and work at an outpatient facility with adults diagnosed with persistent and severe mood and thought disorders. I specialize in complex ptsd.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure the professional feels like a real person. They should listen more than they talk, they should never make promises, and they should never think they know more than you about your life. Therapist, psychologists, and psychiatrists are guides, they do not know how to solve your problems. You are the one who must take control, a good therapist will simply guide and support you so you learn to take control, even after the therapist is gone. You go home to your problems, not the therapist, so you must be equipped to manage them.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Ask the professional to describe to you briefly their thoughts on exactly what issues you are dealing with Ask them why they are qualified to help you with anxiety or depression. They are trying to work for you, so hire the right employee.
