Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new client?
On the first visit you will undergo a very comprehensive evaluation, where we will get a history of your issues and concerns, examine you for movement problems, weakness, posture, and any neurological deficits. We will discuss and establish your goals for recovery, and how we will address them. We will make a treatment plan that may include any of the following: education about your issues and prevention, manual therapy, and an exercise program tailored for you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have practiced for 35 years. I have been a board certified specialist in orthopedics since 1993. I specialize in difficult orthopedic cases, as well as generally in low back, shoulder, foot/ankle, and pelvic floor problems. I have been evaluating gait and runners for my entire career, and prescribe orthotics as needed. I have taken over 100 continuing education courses to stay up to date and further enhance my knowledge and understanding of how to help the body move better.
Do you have a standard pricing system? If so, please share the details here.
We bill the majority of insurances, and will check on your coverage for you once an appointment is established. We offer a set cash pay price upon request.
How did you get started?
I have always been interested in the human body, how it moves, and in helping people stay active and maintain the quality of their lives.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Professional, collegiate, high school and middle school athletes; high level runners, pro baseball players, skiers, and tenns players; collegiate to middle school gymnasts, basketball players, semi pro soccer players. Recreational athletes of all ages; work related injuries; people recovering from auto accidents; overuse injuries; women recovering from childbirth or having pelvic floor issues of any kind.
There are 7 PT's in my office, who cover a broad spectrum of muskuloskeletal conditions we are able to treat well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I treated a young gymnast who had had multiple injuries over a couple of years. 5 weeks after our last session, she won the all around state championship at her level.
Equally exciting was the middle aged woman I just saw for a recheck who has been suffering from severe back and leg pain, foot pain hobbling her walking, and shoulder pain. We have been working her back to an independent exercise program, and she is back to walking painfree, working out, and mostly managing her issues on her own now.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a professional in your area of expertise?
Ask if the person treats patients without a referral from a physician, so you know the PT has the confidence and ability to manage your care on his or her own.
Ask if her or she treats your specific condition on a regular basis.
Does a person answer the phone when you schedule, vs an automated system? Does the person at the front desk seem genuinely concerned about you, as they will reflect the attitued of the clinic.
If you want to talk to a PT before you come in, that should not be a problem, although they may have to call you back between their patients.
Look at online reviews, but be aware that in the medical field, we are limited in how we can respond due to HIPAA (patient privacy laws).
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their needs?
What exactly do I want to get out of going to see a physical therapist? What would be different or better about my life? This will help you establish what your goals are, ie: I want to play soccer without pain sidelining me. I want to walk for exericise without foot pain. I want to be able to put my clothes on without my shoulder hurting. I want to be able to run, jump, reach, or work at my desk for an hour w/o having to stop due to pain.
How much time are you able to spend going to physical therapy, and how much are you willing to do on your own with the advice you are given?
