Cheryl Rau Counseling
About
I work with ages 6 through adults, specializing in anxiety and depression, life changes, stress, and trauma. My background is in working with dual-diagnosed adults, school counseling at the elementary and middle school level, and providing behavior therapy to children and adults. I have a passion for working with those struggling with anxiety and depression, communication issues, parenting challenges, trauma, and life stress.
I truly enjoy getting to know people on a personal level. I know I grow best when information is practical, down to earth, and delivered with compassion, knowledge, humor, and understanding. These are the things I try to offer to each of my clients. My hope is that the time we spend together will feel comfortable, natural, and leave you feeling truly at ease with the counseling relationship.
I believe we can work through whatever complicates your life, tap into the gifts you've been given, and come out stronger and more resilient. I'm honored to join you in working through life's challenges in whichever way you feel comfortable. Your health and welfare truly matter to me.

How did you get started in this business?
I have 23+ years working in the field of mental health, counseling, and behavioral support. I'm doing what I love the most... helping others in counseling.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with kindergarten students through adults. I've served students and adults with issues surrounding anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, learning disabilities, special needs, autism, behavioral issues, parenting, anger management, and communication. I'm also working with adults going through life changes and women's health.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I'm fond of is when we were pulling our grass out with a sod cutter and had offered people free sod, to come and get it if interested. Sod is really heavy! But several families came to freely take what they wanted and in the process helped us by rolling it up and hauling it away. An elderly gentleman came to get some and they were helping him load. It became a fun event for everybody, working together and helping each other and all gaining from it. It was the joy and the giving spirit in the people that made this difficult job so enjoyable.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I would recommend requesting a free 20-minute consultation by phone to get a feel of the counselor.
I would also recommend calling your insurance to learn about your co-pays, etc.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
I believe I'm able to help people come up with these questions through therapy.
