How did you get started in this business?
My story started back when I was in high school. As I was going through high school, many of my peers were drawn to me. They confided in me about their troubles and pain. At the time, I didn’t understand why they gravitated towards me. As a teenager, I was fascinated about being able to offer guidance and comfort to my fellow students. The gratification that I received from helping others left me with a sense of fulfillment and purpose. I told myself, that once I graduated high school, I would pursue a degree in counseling. I wanted to help people and do it in an environment that came very natural to me.
Sometimes things don’t always go according to our plans. I ended up pursuing a completely different major. After two years of college, I relocated from Arkansas to Texas to seek better opportunities. Coworkers and people that I encountered throughout my journey continued to entrust me with their problems and heartaches. As I continued to counsel and comfort people, I sought out guidance from my Heavenly Father. It was through prayer that I received revelation from God. I shifted my education plans and turned back to my first love, counseling. As I pursued counseling, it became obvious to me that counseling was not only my natural gift, it was my calling. I got to where I am today because I obeyed God and trusted His process. I prayed relentlessly. I empowered myself through the Word of God and overcame the identity crisis that manifested from my childhood. No matter what obstacles, trials or adversity I faced, I persevered. Quitting was not an option. The Spirit in me would not allow me to quit on the calling God has placed in my life.
As a young adult, it was by working through my own internal pain and brokenness that Total Restoration Ministries was birthed. As I pursued my degree in counseling, I realized that I had a lot of brokenness in my own life that I had not properly dealt with. I grew up in a dysfunctional home. As a result, I had a real identity crisis. I had to work through the pain of the broken relationships within my family. When I felt the pulling on my heart that God was calling me deeper in the pursuit of my spiritual identity, I became conflicted. My physical identity which had manifested from the seeds planted in my childhood was at the forefront of my memory. I began wavering with my identity because God was telling me something different. I had to fight for who I was spiritually because I didn’t know who God said I was. We can’t conquer what we don’t confront. By burying my past, it created a barrier and hindered me from being who God called me to be.
When we bury things, it just means it is not in sight. If you continue to sweep things under the rug and bury them, you eventually trip. As a result, it takes more time, energy and attention to deal with the mess that you have created. Consequently, you must deal with one layer at a time. It was a very painful time for me, and I didn’t understand it all. Forgiveness is imperative for healing. In order to move forward, I had to forgive my family. This was a very difficult process and it stirred up intense pain that I had buried for many years. I had to face the pain and walk through the process in order to be able to help others the way God intended. I had to learn to see myself the way God sees me and love myself as He created me, imperfections and all. I had to transition from a place of brokenness to one of spiritual wholeness. I did not realize that when God called me into ministry, these things would flood my life and invade my sense of comfort. Obedience was the key to the many blessings that have transpired throughout my journey. There were times when I told God that I can’t or that I won’t. I didn’t feel good enough, smart enough or qualified.
Regardless of how I felt or what I thought, it did not change God’s mind about me. It did not abort His plan to use me. It just meant I had to get to a place where I said, “Ok God, even though I am not qualified, I am going forth because you have instructed me to do so.” Through obedience, He took my shortcomings and added His supernatural power. As a result, blessings have manifested in my life. With God’s power, the joy and contentment I was able to make in people’s lives was greater than the discontentment found in my own life. There are days that I still struggle. When I get over my insecurities, doubts, and fears and decide to trust Him in the process, He supernaturally blesses it. When I am obedient, God gives me what I lack. People see the manifestation of being a message or a blessing to someone else, not my struggles or insufficiencies. They see His glory, His power, and His love. That is how I have overcome the struggles and continue to do so to this day.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure they are a good listener. Make sure the goal is to get you better, by giving you life principles to stand on your own and not be dependent upon a counselor/therapist for the rest of your life.
