About

I have over 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology from William James College a Masters degree in school psychology from Rhode Island College. I have had intensive training in all the major fields of psychotherapy. I am a professor emeritus community College of Rhode Island and have taught at several colleges and universities on both the graduate and undergraduate levels as well as Brown University medical school. I am particularly interested in brief therapies that minimize the length of therapy and at the same time maximize results.

I find people interesting and have a great deal of respect for them. Usually when I see people they are in an abyss. Somehow life has dealt them a misfortune that has tested their ability to continue the journey through life. I am fascinated by my clients' courage to face these challenges. With my training and my ability to use my self, I help make them heroes in their own story. That is the joy of my work.

    Frequently asked questions

The first 3 sessions are spent assessing what issues we will be discussing in your therapy. At the end of the 3rd section we will collaborate on a plan that will pave the way to bring you the results you desire. I use many modalities of therapy including NLP, CBT, mindfulness and energy psychology. In working with couples and families I am a structural strategic strategic family therapist.

My education and training has been exceptionally diverse and competency-based. I earned a Psy.D. a Masters and have a pleathora of other educational and training experiences. I have been mentored by some of the most learned people in my field. I have studied and taught several modalities of psychotherapy. At the core of my belief system is a gratitude for life and faith in God, myself and my clients.

My usual fee is based on insurance reimbursements. Usually people have a co-pay which is the only out-of-pocket expense for my services. For those without insurance I have a sliding fee scale based on income. I can go as low as $40 for a 45 minute session.

When I was an undergraduate I was a history major and a psychology minor. I got a job at Butler Hospital when I was 19. Butler Hospital is a psychiatric hospital that is a Brown University teaching hospital. When I was there I learned so much about human behavior that it really piqued my interest more toward psychology than history. I did teach history for 2 years when I graduated from college. But he also remained at Butler Hospital. I was there for 7 years. I then went to graduate school at Rhode Island College and earned a degree in school psychology. Other degrees experiences followed.

I work with adolescents, adults in geriatric populations. I also see families with children. I see clients with relationship problems, anxiety, and depression. I have worked with veterans with PTSD, individuals with borderline personality disorder using DBT to assist them and anger management.
I do forensic work for Family Court including coparenting and reunification therapy.

My advice would be to be sure the person is licensed and that he/she has had at least 7 years of experience in the field or he/she is currently being supervised by a senior therapist. When you meet the therapist could help you formulate a plan aiming toward your desired results. Minimally the therapist should have a plan to ameliorate any symptoms of anxiety or depression you may have. Your therapist should be an active participant in your therapy. Anyone can be a good listener but not everyone has the skills to perform interventions that will bring you to your desired results.

    Probably 2 questions
where am I presently and how do I feel about that and about myself?
What is it that I desire from therapy. Where will I be in my life when I reach my goal and how will I feel about myself?
