About
Through over 35 years of clinical experience, I have developed the expertise to work comfortably and effectively with a wide variety of issues.
I am extremely solution-focused in all the work that I do. Clients come focused on the challenges they are facing. They are experts on their problems. My job is to help them identify and work toward the solutions. My clients become experts on what they can do to improve their lives.
When working with individuals, I have found that the most powerful way to do this is through helping my clients access their own inner resources of wisdom and strength. This inner knowing offers you a fresh perspective on the challenges you face and helps you connect with inner resources you may have never realized. As you draw on your own inner knowing to transform your life for the better, you naturally develop a deep sense of confidence and well-being.
When working with couples, the focus is on helping each person recognize what they can do differently to change the relationship for the better. Most people have no difficulty seeing the changes their partner needs to make to improve the relationship. The problem is that there is no way either of you can make the other one change. Both of you can be empowered, though, by recognizing the changes you can make to create a better, more loving relationship. As you both start making these changes, the relationship improves, and everyone benefits.
A huge part of this is helping couples communicate better by learning to listen to what the other person is saying. An essential shift occurs in any relationship when both people feel heard and understood by their partner. Understanding replaces blame and leads to mutual compassion and forgiveness, the true hallmarks of a healthy, loving relationship.
I look forward to exploring with you how you can transform your life – and your relationship(s) - for the better.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our first meeting is a getting acquainted session. You let me know the issues that bring you in to see me. Even more important, we explore your goals in working together.
I believe that the most important thing in choosing a therapist is finding a person who feels right to you. If you are seeking couples therapy, it has to feel right to both of you. So, the most important thing about our first session is that it gives you the opportunity to get a sense of what it's like to work with me. In this way you can feel confident that you're making a good choice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received a doctorate in clinical psychology in 1978. Since that time I have received extensive training in a variety of modalities including solution focused therapy, Imago Couples therapy and hypnotherapy.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
At the end of our first session, after we agree to work together, I ask you two questions. The first is 'What is the value for you of our work together?' This is not a dollars and cents question. It's about how much it means to you to get more enjoyment out of life by achieving the goals we have set together.
Most people respond to that question with something like "Priceless!", or 'It would mean everything to me!"
I then ask how much you can comfortably afford that is fair to you and fair to me. I gratefully accept the fee we've agreed on.
I know that this is an unusual way to work finances. I've learned that people find it helpful to get a ballpark sense of what my clients generally pay me, which falls between $150 and $225.
