Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The initial meeting is all about working together on overall goals that brought us together. Once we understand a few things that we might focus on for possible future sessions. We will both work together to ensure we know my role as a life coach and what is not.
Over the first meeting is to see if it's a good fit overall and there is an overall comfort level that would help aid in progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in the mental health field for nine years. I have been trained and have comprehensive knowledge of working with individuals who struggle with grief, anxiety, depression, anger, and troubles with focus.
I do well-helping others who have tried working with mental health psychology/counseling professionals and would like a different path to developing skills for their future and present life.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My prices start at $35 to $70 a session; I do a sliding fee scale for people who are in life transition financially.
I am flexible and do this because it is what I love and want to be the most help I can to my individuals, and if that means lowering prices or giving some time to pay, I will do so.
How did you get started in this business?
I started working with boys in a school/community setting when I was 22 years old and loved working with the kids and their families. I worked with various kiddos from the ages 5 to 19 years old and three different generations. I worked hand in hand with great grandparents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, mothers, fathers, and siblings on needed skills to make the family structure solid for both the individuals I worked with and as well for the whole family.
Also, I worked extensively with a variety of helpers in the community. I have worked with many mental health workers, teachers, principals, school psychologists, and school counselors to improve the team and to advocate for my individuals that I worked with and their families as well.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with many different demographics in the mental health and life coaching field. I seem to work very well working with adolescents and men regarding individual skill building and developing new goals.
With females, I do well-helping mothers and grandmothers developing needed skills to help with parenting and organizing life to be the most effective parent or family members.
Honestly, though, my personality and skills work well with all sets of types of people.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
An event that I am fond of seeing is seeing an individual going from the unknown regarding their marriage and their work-life to having goals and actions that have led to being both consistent and successful in their life.
You can see a difference in the individual when it comes to their countenance and with their mindset on life. It's like talking to an entirely new person.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Find someone that both have the skills needed to help you, that has the experience and the life coaching framework that is flexible enough to handle what you need in life.
You should find someone that after 1 to 3 sessions, is not just asking you a ton of questions but is beginning to work on the needed goals that you set to find. I feel like counselors and life coaches sometimes struggle to push building skills and goals. Getting to know you and the gelling of the therapeutic part of the relationship will happen over time.
It's good to find someone that isn't afraid to call you out when you aren't following your goals but can do it with grace and love.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
1. How can this life coach be a support to me? Will my past experiences with a mental health worker or a life coach affect this process?
2. What is it that I want most through this process?
3. What are some of my greatest hopes and dreams. Are there some hopes and dreams I have given up?
4. What are some supports I have in life, and what support do I wish I had?
5. What are some fears that I have when talking about my life and my struggles?
