About

Tsambikos (Sam) Dimitrakis, P.T., M.T.C., earned his bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from Maryville University in Saint Louis, Missouri. He completed advanced studies in Manual Therapy at the Graduate Institute in Physical Therapy in Saint Augustine, Florida. Within the physical therapy profession, manual therapy is defined as a clinical approach utilizing skilled, specific hands-on techniques, including but not limited to mobilization, used by the physical therapist to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of modulating pain; increasing range of motion (ROM); reducing or eliminating soft tissue inflammation; inducing relaxation; improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair, extensibility, and/or stability; facilitating movement; and improving function. Only a small number of physical therapists have this certification.

Sam is certified in Nerve Conduction Studies. Nerve conduction studies are used mainly for evaluation of numbness, tingling, burning or weakness of the arms and legs. The knowledge of nerve conduction studies makes the clinician more efficient in diagnosing certain musculoskeletal or neurological conditions. Only a small number of physical therapists have this certification.

Sam has particular expertise in the treatment of the upper cervical spine. Abnormal function in the upper cervical spine interferes with the biomechanical integrity of the whole spine and affects its ability to work in harmony as a unit. Dysfunction in the upper cervical spine may cause symptoms such as headaches, lightheadedness, dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision and impaired balance.

Mr. Dimitrakis has more than thirty-two years of clinical experience in the United States and Europe. He specializes in spinal conditions (bulging and herniated discs), post-surgical rehabilitation, as well as treating general musculoskeletal conditions. He has treated Olympic and professional athletes. He has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1983.
