About
I have over twenty years of experience as a Mental Health Therapist. I have worked as a truma expert in Mental Health Centers, Women's Battered Shelter, In-Patient Psychiatric Hospital both with adults and children after graduating at the University of Kansas with a Masters' Degree in Clinical Social. I opened my own private practice in 1995 and have completed many professional workshops as well as completed research on depression, anxiety, and a number of other mental health issues. I work with Children, Adolescents, and Adults. I generally get my referrals from former clients who recommend me to their friends, family, coworkers. I think that is what makes me stand out in the field of Mental Health Counseling-I am able to connect with my clients and give them a safe place to talk. The fact that I am referred to others by my current clients indicates that I am providing the best treatment possible.
I chose to get my degree in Clinical Social Work because it closely fit my own value system. I didn't want to just get a job and make money-I wanted to feel I was doing something to better my community. I have been asked by several news stations to make informative statements about how to assist individuals going through different life changing crisises or events. I like to stay informed with the latest research on neuroscience and the approches used in practice settings. I love having my own office where I can use my knowledge to help others on their path to solving their issues by helping them become fully aware of any barriers that are keeping them from reaching their full potientials.
I use several different treatment models to help individuals reach their goals. Most importantly, I work to connect and develop trust between myself and my client by providing a safe and comfortable space where the individual can feel heard.
I received an award from the Nationl Institute of Mental Health while in my second year of graduate school for a research project I completed. I also wrote a grant and developed a Community Support Services program for traumatized adults.
