My books focus on the most universal life passages, including marriage, pregnancy, parenthood, life/balance/, divorce, intimate relationships, midlife, teenage girl empowerment, chronic illness and death and dying. I have spent the past thirty years traveling the country providing keynotes and workshops, as well as working with aspiring authors on concept development, book proposals, editing, branding, speaking and agenting. A seasoned media presence, I have been on Oprah, LifeTimeTV, Montel Williams, with numerous interviews and articles in national magazines. I am a hard wired entrepreneur, well versed on building a platform. As someone who has used my personal experience and transcended adversity through writing, speaking and coaching, I truly believe that each of us has a story to tell; I bring the same high bar of professionalism to my clients’ work that I bring to my own, drawing from a highly curated well of knowledge developed through my academic training in clinical psychology. My one-on-one coaching is highly customized, compassionate, accessible, and always designed to meet the client’s goals. I feel honored to be a part of of midwifing their creative process. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I normally start out with a brief phone call and/or email to determine the most pressing issues they want to work on as well as an overview of my process. I ask for a minimum four session commitment, as the first session is often used for introductory material, including past experiences working with therapists or coaches. In extraordinarily traumatic situations, such as bereavement or dealing with a serious medical emergency, I will make an exception and offer a one time Edison for an hour and s half. As I am not a fan of long-term therapy, (I am Very results oriented), the longest I will work with a client is six months.
At that point, if we agree to continue, we set up a one-time, complimentary fifteen minute session, after which we both decide whether we are a good fit. If so, we set up dates for the first four sessions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have spent thoifty years working with individuals and couples on relationship issues, intimacy challenges, family of origin obstacles, complex phobias, career clarity, financial feats, confidence building, estrangement and amicable divorce, living with chronic illness, and healing from trauma, including by not limited to death and dying. Approximately one third of my clinical work has been done in a small group workshop setting, often transitioning to one-on-one coaching. My academic training is in clinical psychology, personal coaching, and masters level writing classes.

How did you get started in this business?
I always knew I wanted to work with people, particulary in a practice that would utilize highly skilled communication and gifts of perception. I went to school in order to work in counseling/coaching, and my practice has grown steadily and organically out of my books, as well as high profile keynotes and media appearances.
What types of customers have you worked with?
My clients have included teenagers-mostly, but not solely, girls, and individuals ranging in age from 25-65. Approximately a quarter of my clients are couples dealing with relationship issues. Dealing with addiction amd recovery is often part of the process; when it is the core issue or needs to be dealt with prior to delving into other areas, I Will usually refer to local addiction and recovery specialists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was recently asked to officiate at a memorial service following the cremation of a couple’s baby who had died in uterine during the time we were working together. It was a painful, poignant, bittersweet experience that reflected the growth and healing they’d done throughout eight weekly sessions.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
1. Take the time to do a sample session with them yourself. There’s nothing better than direct experience.
2. Ask to see at least a half dozen to dozen references, from both clients and colleagues.
3. Ask the counselor/coach to share some particularly challenging issues from diverse clients and ask her to evaluate her own performance.
