It all starts with a conversation. What's going well? What isn't? Working from a foundation of positive regard and acceptance I will share evidence-based techniques and insights into ways that you can manage life better.
My perspective on counseling is that distress or suffering in life can be partially alleviated or managed by becoming aware of and changing psychologically damaging core beliefs we hold about ourselves.
I am a Minnesota Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I earned my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University, MN.
My specialized areas of study are in anxiety and addiction. My master's thesis was on adult compassion development in AA sponsors. I have training and practice in psychiatric stabilization, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness and relaxation therapies, psychotherapy, Motivational Interviewing, and adult mental health and chemical health assessment, diagnosis, referrals, and treatment.

The first sessions involve me getting to know you. I use a conversational approach to gathering information to determine what's troubling you and what is at the root of your concerns.
I encourage each person seeking counseling to have a conversation with their health insurance company about number of visits covered and find out what their co-pay or deductible is.
