I work with teens and adults. My specialties include anxiety, depression, gender issues/gender dysphoria, domestic abuse, domestic violence, grief & loss, trauma, and PTSD. I am a certified Clinical Trauma Professional. As a Gender Specialist, I follow WPATH's Standards of Care. I am a kink-aware counselor. My pronouns are she/her.

As a counselor, I'm a compassionate resource, listening without judgment, and acknowledge your experience. I aim to provide a safe space for you to do the therapeutic work you need to do to live on your terms. I seek to empower my clients to feel positive about who they are and help them move through their issue(s) by providing tools and insights to draw upon when life goes sideways.

    Frequently asked questions

My counseling theoretical orientation is person-centered. In addition, I bring a foundation of sociological theory into the session to provide a broader perspective to personal issues. However, I will pull from various counseling theories and techniques to tailor to the needs of an individual. I am trained in CBT techniques and will use them when needed. However, I am not a certified CBT counselor.

    As a resident-in-counseling, I receive supervision under: Michelle E. Wade, Ed.D., LPC - VA License #0701005993 Ph:(703) 861-7643 & Sandra Molle, LPC - VA License # 0701004074   Ph:(703) 997-9210

I earned an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology from American University, specializing in gender, work, and family. I received my M.A. in Sociology from California State University, Los Angeles, specializing in gender norms and deviancy. I earned a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Sociology from Texas Christian University. I have received certification in CCTP - Complex Trauma.

My current training for professional certification:

Gender Specialist through WPATH(World Professional Association for Transgender Health)

I do not accept insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. I do not submit insurance claims for my clients. I can provide monthly statements to clients to submit to their health care insurance providers for out-of-network reimbursement according to the provisions in their plan. By submitting the reimbursement forms to insurance companies, clients can significantly reduce their overall out-of-pocket costs.

While no two people are the same or present with the same personal struggles, I work with a lot of clients that are dealing with depression, anxiety, communication issues, childhood trauma, and/or PTSD. In addition, I work with folks that are questioning their gender identity. I am currently running a psychoeducational group for adults identifying as female who are survivors or current victims of domestic abuse. In addition, I run a transgender and nonbinary support group for adults.

My advice to folks that are new to therapy or seeking a new therapist is to make certain that you like your therapist. If something isn't working, you need to speak up and let the therapist know. If you just don't seem to "click" with your therapist, something feels off, or something isn't working, you need to tell your therapist. The worst thing you can do is to sit across from a therapist you don't like. It won't help you move forward in your therapeutic journey, and you'll likely dread going to therapy or stop going.

You want to ask yourself the following:

    1. Are you seeking therapy for yourself or for someone else? If you're not invested in therapy for yourself, you'll be frustrated, and you'll likely quit before you get started.

    2. What is the main reason that you reached out for help? This is important for the therapist to know. If you don't know why you need therapy, you won't know where to begin or what type of therapist you would work best with.
