Local

Our mission is to help patients in the Mt. Prospect, Des Plaines, and neighboring communities avoid the difficulties of surgery and reduce their dependence on long-term use of prescription pain medications and their accompanying side effects. We work one-on-one with patients to ensure that their recovery is full and lasting. We combine education and exercises to prevent injuries from recurring.

Caring

When you step through our door you will experience the compassion, positive attitude, and hands-on approach we bring to our job everyday. We’re enthusiastic, motivated and positive with every patient who steps into our facility. You’ll find that we are committed to your health and wellbeing and will be there every step of the way along your path to recovery.

Ease of Scheduling

Since our opening in 2000, Emery has grown from physician referrals to patients referring friends and family members. That’s important to us because it means we’re providing the kind of expert, effective, hands-on care that people trust. When you’re in pain, you want to achieve maximum results with treatment as soon and as conveniently as possible. We work hard to ensure you can see a physical therapist within 24 hours of your first call at our Mt. Prospect/Des Plaines center.

    Frequently asked questions

Your first visit to Emery Physical Therapy will include a personalized evaluation by the physical therapist.

We will perform an examination to identify current and potential problems. Based on the results of the examination, and considering your specific plan and goals from your doctor, we will design a plan of care specifically for you.

Your physical therapy initial evaluation will include a thorough examination of muscle, nerve, tendon, ligament, bone, and body tissues as they pertain to your physical complaints or limitations. If a physician previously examined you, then your initial physical therapy examination will be directed on the specific region or condition identified by your doctor.

After your physical therapy evaluation, your therapist will develop a treatment program that will often address physical deficits, such as:  strength, posture, flexibility, neurological status, joint motion, and functional limitation with activities of daily living.

    Philip Olasa, PT, OCS

Philip Olasa earned his degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and his Master of Physical Therapy degree (MPT) in 1999 from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. Philip is board Certified in orthopedics (OCS) through the American Physical Therapy Association and is Certified in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (CMT).

He grew up in Oak Park, IL and Elmhurst, IL and enjoyed exercising, playing basketball, and running.  He was introduced to weight lifting in high school and went on to become a competitve weight lifter where he learned the importance of performing the right exercises, the proper sequence, and taking precautions to emphasize safety.  This was when he knew that he wanted to be in the health and fitness field.  After exploring numerous health careers, he knew that physical therapy was the right field that combined his passion for exercise with the latest evidence based reasearch to have the greatest impact on people that needed help.

In college, he worked as Health Aide and in the fitness centers.  He received his certification as Health and Fitness Instructor with the American College of Sports Medicine and worked as a personal trainer to help pay for college.  In physical therapy school, he trained atMercy Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital, and Cook County Hospital where he treated everything from orthopedics and pediatrics to wound care and the burn unit. He also worked at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in the orthopedic, brain injury, and spinal cord departments.  He eventually focused in orthopedic physical therapy and for the last 18 years, he has specialized in private out-patient orthopedic and manual therapy spinal care.  He has attended numerous continuing education courses and certifications including differential diagnosis, vestibular rehabilitation, dry needling therapy, trigger point release treatment, osteopathic manual therapy, and advanced spinal treatment methods.

After working at various hospital centers and briefly at some larger corporate physical therapy centers, he decided that he prefered to treat his patients in a patient focused one-on-one-setting to maximize the hands-on treatment approach that he developed.  His treatment focuses on helping patients quickly and safely return to their daily activities and to educate them on how they can progress their recovery for the long term.

Jennifer Laube - PT, DPT, FAAOMPT

Jennifer graduated Summa Cum Laude from Carthage College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training and Business Administration. While earning her undergraduate degree she played for the women's soccer team as the starting goalkeeper, and coached youth athletes during off season. After graduation, Jennifer received her certification in athletic training (ATC) and worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Carthage. In 200, she became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) to improve sports performance training for college and youth athletes.

In 2009, Jennifer earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. Immediately after receiving her therapy license (PT) she pursued a certification in manual therapy, which she completed in 2012, and continued with her clinical fellowship until becoming a Fellow (FAAOMPT) in 2013.   She enjoys treating a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, and sports-related conditions, with special interest in spine, shoulder, and knee injuries. Her manual therapy background emphasizes differential diagnostics, joint mobilization or manipulation, soft tissue and neural mobilization, and individualized exercise progression. Her sports medicine background combined with an eclectic manual therapy approach allows her to help patients return to their highest level of function.

Jennifer enjoys both the clinical and educational aspects of physical therapy. She was a teaching assistant for several grad school classes and post-graduate manual therapy courses, and has lectured at many company sponsored continuing education courses. She is passionate about helping others through continued education and providing evidence based treatment.  Jennifer enjoys staying active, supporting Chicago sports teams, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She played many sports growing up, including competitive volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and continues to enjoy sports recreationally. Her experience as an athlete, coach, team trainer, and athletic trainer, in addition to personal injuries sustained playing sports, formed the basis for her passion and understanding of rehabilitative medicine, and has helped form her treatment approach.

Emery Physical Therapy is proud of the great reputation we keep with our insurance companies. We are on the list of all major insurance providers and take  Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, Cigna, Orthonet, Aetna, Humana, Unicare, Healthlink, and Meridian. We also work extensively with all Workman's Comp and Auto Insurances.

Emery Physical Therapy offers submission of claims on your behalf to your insurance company as a convenience. Many insurance policies require copayments for services, and the amount of the copayment depends on your insurance provider. You may also need to meet your deductible.

Emery Physical Therapy has a specialized account representative to help you understand your insurance coverage and will assist in estimating your financial responsibilities.

We have also included an optional Insurance Benefits Worksheet for your personal use to assist you with determining your insurance plan's benefit details.  We will also contact your insurance company to determine your eligibility and benefits in order to efficiently process your claims.

Every state in America allows you to meet a physical therapist without a physician referral, according to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  It is a good idea to visit the office or call to get an understanding for how the front desk operates and to see if you can ultimately be comfortable at this facility with the therapist and the staff. Trying to recover from an injury may take a heavy toll on the patient in more than one aspect so being comfortable with the environment is crucial for recovery. The therapist will not only be your medical professional, but your motivator and your guide.

For this reason, Emery Physical Therapy has carefully chosen a staff that’s not only knowledgeable, but also positive and conscientious.  Most importantly, we know how to listen. You as the patient understand what motivates you and what will work well for you. This is the reason why Emery Physical Therapy takes the time to carefully listen to the needs of the patient, answer any questions that they may have and explain to them the process of recovery which is tailored to each patient.
