Mend Art Therapy
About
I work with adults, couples, and adolescents to find better ways of relating to get needs met. Trauma causes us to live from a defended place with grief and anxieties. Therapy is the reparative process of healing in relationship and again living from our "true," authentic self, with more adaptability and ease. In the therapy process we develop helpful ways to handle life stress specific to you, process relational histories as they come up, and identify and develop your internal resources, for a sense of integration and well-being.
My goal is to provide an individualized, co-creative experience that is emotionally safe, affirming, and protective for you to experience your creativity, life energy, and resiliency. I provide art therapy for self exploration in my office and distance sessions for those in Tennessee. I am under supervision in Georgia.
I specialize in childhood/relational trauma that create an enduring shadow of life patterns. I have found approaches such as art (visual and narrative metaphor) therapy, psychodynamic, Schema therapy, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, and gestalt experiential methods to be helpful for clients to regain their natural sense of resiliency.
I admire the courage and resiliency it takes for clients to get involved in the therapy process. It is an extremely rewarding and fulfilling career to see how clients find their own path back to wholeness and life success. I have loved being a witness to my clients' transformative process. I truly enjoy learning everything I can about how to best facilitate and support this process for each individual client.

How did you get started in this business?
It's a long story:). But art has always been a resource for me and I wanted to share that with others, as a way to use it to stay connected to the world and myself during stressful times, as a form of therapy. I also believe in the therapeutic process as a form of a creative process itself, as we continually have to find re-make ourselves, getting rid of old patterns, and finding new resources that work to adapt to life.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with clients that are very sensitive, creative, resilient, had experiences in life where they were marginalized, either because they just werebecause they had to choose to go their own way.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
To make sure and ask as many questions you want to make sure this person is a good match for you.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Ask what their treatment philosophy is, if it is client-centered and what that means to them. Or whatever their treatment view is, ask what it means to them.
