Frequently asked questions

Counseling involves the sharing of personal problems with a trusted professional who is skilled at helping you come to a resolution about the particular situation. My approach to counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations, depending on your individual needs. For example, you might be dealing with certain ailments that are affecting your current behavior such as negative thinking patterns (Cognitive Behavioral approach) or past/present unmet needs (Psychodynamic approach), or perhaps you need to learn skills on how to tolerate distress and unpleasant emotions (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy/Mindfulness). Perhaps you are having a difficult time adjusting to a life transition and just need support, guidance, or help with problem solving.

Sometimes, there are traumas or tragedies that disrupt people’s ability to feel good about themselves and connect with the goodness around them. This imbalance can lead to depression, anxiety, addiction and/or other self-defeating behaviors. I will seek to understand your concerns and to help you find effective ways to cope with your problems. I am interested in integrating your values and beliefs into the counseling process to the extent that you desire. Helping you find balance in mind, body, spirit and community is one of the best ways to restore your health and well-being.

It is important to realize that your active involvement in the counseling process will be the most influential contribution to your success. Your input is essential in establishing treatment goals, risks and benefits of change, the time commitment involved, and other pertinent aspects of your situation. Periodically, we will evaluate your progress and, if necessary, re-design your treatment plan, goals, and/or methods.

As with any successful intervention, there are both benefits and risks associated with counseling. Risks might include experiencing uncomfortable levels of feelings like sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger or frustration, or having difficulties with other people. Some changes may seem to lead to worsening circumstances in the short run, but over time, with consistent responses, improvement should be experienced.

I graduated in 2020 with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in Lakeland, FL. I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, which means that I am practicing under supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Counselor while I fulfill the Florida state requirements towards licensure. I am trained to work with individuals, couples and families on a variety of issues, such as grief and loss, family dynamics, codependency, mood disorders, addictions, issues among the LGBT population, and emotional disturbances with youths over the age of 10 as well as adults of any age. I am also certified in Teletherapy – a certification that means I can offer individuals therapy from the comfort of their home.
