About

I have been practicing law since 1982, and been with Facemyer Law Firm since 2011. Myn practice focuses on estate planning, elder law, asset protection planning, Medicaid planning and probate. I believe in tailoring each plan to the client's needs and wishes, and in taking the time to get to know my clients in order to make sure that their needs and goals are met. For over 15 years I have also presented at Continuing Legal Education seminars for BNI, teaching other attorneys about the areas I practice in.

I really enjoy my areas of practice. As I explained to my partner about a year ago, the difference between his practice as a civil litigator, divorce lawyer and criminal defense attorney, is that I get to work with people I llike. I like being able to get to know my clients, and give them the service they deserve to make sure their estate is planned properly. I also spend some time each year teaching other lawyers how to do estate planning and elder law, so believe that I am well-qualified to work with clients with estates of all sizes and needs.

Frequently asked questions

When each new clilent calls, I get the their email address and other contact information. I email a questionnaire and have them bring it to the initial consultation. This consultation is free, and usually takes an hour to an hour and a half. I spend time getting to know my client, their needs and goals, and family dynamics. I also spend time helping them understand their options. At the conclusion of this meeting, I schedule our next meeting, usually within a week or so, to either allow lthem to make decisions they have not decided on yet, or to sign their completed documents.

I received my J.D. from BYU in 1982. CLE is required, and I belong to the Utah County Estate Planning Roundtable, and the Utah VAlley Estate Planning Council. Each group meets about 10 times per year, and provides me with the CLE credits I need each year.

Estate planning--$2500.00

Medicaid planning--$7500.00

Probate--$1800 plus filing fees (currently $360.00).

I started out working with a small law firm in Utah County, and gradually built my estate planning practice by meeting with CPAs, insurance agents, and financial planners. It took a long time, but I get to work in an area of the law that is enjoyable to work in.

I have had clients from all walks of life, and wit estates of varying sizes, from small estates of $100,000 or less to multi-millioin business owners. My philosophy has alsways been that even clients with a small estate need estate planning, especially if there is a second marriage.

Look for somebody whose practice focuses on estate planning and related areas. Also check to see how long they have practcing.

Have an idea of what you want to accomplish. Frequently, the hardest question I ask clients is not how they want their estate distributed, but when. I usually have to explainjust how much flixibility they hve in planning an estate.
