About

Hello! My name is Chris Loup and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Life can be tough and sometimes we are blindsided by events beyond our control. I can work with you to figure out a plan to get back on track and to live your best life.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy which can help clients change the way they feel, think, or behave.

I have helped clients through grief, divorce, coparenting, trauma, and anxiety. I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which helps clients who experiences adverse reactions to trauma or stressful experiences. As a former first responder, I know how stress can interfere with home and work life. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you with feeling better!

As of 4/24 I am accepting Cigna and Aetna!

    Frequently asked questions

I will have the client fill out paperwork which gathers information about themselves, their current issue, and family history. Then we will review the professional disclosure and confidentiality documents together. After that, I will ask questions to get to know you and share more about how counseling will go.

Some client issues can be quickly resolved while others may take more time. It really depends on the client's issues, their resources, and commitment.

My professional background involved investigating abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and many other horrible crimes. I learned a lot about people and how we all react differently to life changes. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I currently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Solution Focused Therapy. I enjoy educating clients. An example is teaching clients on how anxiety can cause us muscle tension, sleeplessness, palpitations, nausea, and even shaking.

I am currently in-network with BCBS, Cigna and Aetna. Out of pocket is $100/hr, with a sliding scale.

Working in law enforcement has given me an appreciation of how fragile life can be for us all. Our world can be turned upside down in an instant from violence, unexpected medical issues, car accidents, and the unexpected death of a loved one. Law enforcement allowed me to keep people safe, but being a counselor allows me to help people become resilient. I enjoy helping others.

I have enjoyed working with clients from all walks of life. Some of these clients were experiencing a divorce, co-parenting issues, self-improvement/self-esteem issues, communication difficulties, anger issues, grief, trauma from violent crimes, and change of life issues. I enjoy working with clients as young as eleven years old through older adults.

I have two! During my practicum I was fortunate enough to work with two groups. One group was a family grief group. This amazing team of volunteers provided support and love to a handful of families who all experienced the loss of a loved one. The group helped children express their feelings through art. They also provided parents with support and taught them all ways to communicate as a family.

The second group was for young adults who recently aged out of the foster care system. Unfortunately, every year there is approximately 1,200 foster kids in the State of Texas that age out of the foster care system. Most of them do not receive the much-needed support when they are out on their own. The group I volunteered with helped provide direction and emotional support to those young adults.

There are many counselors in the Kerrville area. I would look for someone who is well rounded and provides enough information on their profile to make you feel comfortable. Unfortunately, finding a counselor is kind of like looking for the perfect shoe. Some relationships don’t always fit, but NEVER adjust your boundaries to accommodate a counselor. It should feel comfortable.

If you have started looking for a counselor, then good for you. That means you are probably ready for change. One big question though is, are you ready to do the work. Counseling is not someone telling you what to do to fix your problems. There is no pill, phrase, or exercise that will “cure” an issue in one session. Often, we need to view things from a different perspective, try a different way of thinking, or work on our behavior in order to see change. The good news is that we can all do those things, if we try.
