About

I have been a family lawyer for over a decade and it is the only area of law I have ever worked in. I am in the courtroom at least once a week, if not more, and I enjoy being in trial. When clients come to me, they are often in one of the most difficult times in their lives. When we finish, they often have the best outcome for their family.

In family cases, it is crucial that your family lawyer be comfortable in the courtroom, because the other attorney will try to intimidate a lawyer afraid of the courtroom into settling, when they should not. This is why it's important that I go to bat for clients and go to court, when it's called for. That being said, I also recognize the value in reaching a reasonable settlement. No one is better at making decisions affecting your children and family then you, so if it's possible to reach a reasonable settlement, then I work with clients on getting the best possible outcome for them as well. Not being afraid of the courtroom, puts you in the best position to negotiate the best possible settlement.

Frequently asked questions

We usually have an initial consultation, by phone or in-office, and now, post-COVID via Zoom.  In the conference we go over all of the ways I can help you; what we can do, and what the next steps should be.  At the end of the conference, I will give the potential client documents to review.  This way you can take the paperwork home, and review it, and decide later if you want to hire me as your attorney.  If you do decide to hire, all you have to do is complete the sign-up documents and send those back with payment.  We can get started after that.

Juris Doctor from Baylor Law in 2004

Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in 2000.

I usually require an initial retainer to get started.  This is a payment that a client makes up front, that we then place in a trust account (called an IOLTA) on behalf of the client. In this scenario, we will handle the entire lawsuit.  We have also done Limited Appearance retainers, where we accept a smaller retainer up front, to handle one hearing, or one issue in a larger case. We then only help the client with that issue, and once we are done, they continue handling the case on their own.

If you want to hire our office to handle the entire lawsuit, then we typically require a retainer up front, and we bill against that initial retainer as we work on your case.  After that we are pretty good with working with clients on payment plans.  The initial retainer includes the filing fees and process server fees (if needed), so we can get started right away if necessary.

I have been practicing exclusively family law for the last 14 years.  Before I even sat for the bar, I interned at the Office of the Attorney General - Child Support Division in San Antonio, which is how I became interested in trying family law cases.

All types of customers. I have represented moms and dads, men and women, in all kinds of family law issues. I have represented military clients and their spouses, as well as gay and lesbian parties in custody disputes.  I have also dealt with high-conflict divorce and custody cases and parties who have substance abuse issues.
