About

The best part of my job is seeing clients replace their fear or sadness with joy and passion for life again. The skills I teach, and the issues I help them work through, release them from feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and they start to flourish.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)--not an intern, associate or life coach--licensed by the state of Texas since 2016. I am trained in, and use, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients recover from past traumas that still weigh them down in the present. I am train in, and use, Gottman Couples Method Theory to help couples not only resolve conflicts and improve communication but rekindle the friendship and passion that too often has grown cold. And I have training and experience in helping people with substance use issues find and walk in sobriety.

    Frequently asked questions

When I meet with a new client I listen to understand what troubles them and what they would like to be different in their future. Together we set goals for the client and issues to work on. That helps counseling have a productive direction instead of it just being a time of venting and emotional relief but no significant life change. Counseling can be expensive and I believe a client should get something of value from their time in counseling.

My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Harding University. Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked as a minister for 23 years, earning a Master of Arts degree in ministry from Oklahoma Christian University, a Master of Divinity degree from Pepperdine University, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Abilene Christian University. I then went on to get a Master of Arts degree in professional counseling from Amberton University.

Since becoming a counselor I have received additional training in EMDR, which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and other issues. I have also received training in Gottman Couples Method Theory, which helps couples not only resolve conflict and improve communication but also rekindle friendship and passion that too often grows cold in the relationship.

My standard fee for a 50-minute session is $155. If cost would make treatment prohibitive we can discuss options.

After college I attended medical school where I found I was more interested in why we do what we do, and the deeper questions of life, so I withdrew from medical school and went into ministry. Throughout my ministry career I enjoyed pastoral counseling, so when the opportunity came about I decided to redirect my career to focus exclusively on counseling. I have been working with a counseling group and recently decided to set up my own solo practice.

I have worked with court-ordered clients who did not want to be in counseling, but later admitted it was very helpful to them. I have worked with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and eating disorders. I have also worked with couples trying to deepen their relationship as well as those working through the pain of an affair.

One of my proudest moments was when I went skydiving. It was something I had always wanted to do, but honestly, when the day came I was terrified and wanted to back out. I pushed myself to follow through and it was one of the most anxious/exhilirating events in my life. That taught me a lot about courage being the determination to move foward in spite of fear, not the absence of fear.

Counseling, like all things of true value, is expensive. Because of that we sometimes settle for the lowest price and end up paying the cost in other ways. I believe you get what you pay for when it comes to counseling.

What exactly are you looking to work on in counseling? What do you want to be different in your life as a result of counseling? How much experience does that counselor have with that particular issue? Is this a fully-licensed counselor or a "life coach" or intern who is just starting out.
