Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A new customer calls in to schedule a free 30-minute bankruptcy consultation. This consultation can be done in person, by telephone, or by video conference. During the consultation I will go through the customer's bankruptcy options, answer questions, and discuss the next steps to get the process started.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my law degree (J.D.) from the University of Oregon School of Law in 1997. I am licensed to practice law in Oregon and Washington, the Federal Districts of Oregon, Western Washington, Eastern Washington, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. I have successfully file over 2,000 bankruptcies.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Chapter 7 cases (which is a 3 month liquidation bankruptcy) I will provide a written fee quote at the end of the initial free bankruptcy consultation. Fee quotes will vary depending on how much work I estimate will be involved a particular person's case. I have affordable payment plans where clients can pay a smaller amount to file and then pay the remainder in payments after the case is filed.
For Chapter 13 cases (which is a 3 to 5 year payment plan bankruptcy), I charge on an hourly fee basis. I only need a small amount up front to file the case, with the rest of the attorney's fee getting paid by the Bankruptcy Trustee through the payments the Client makes into their Chapter 13 Plan.
How did you get started in this business?
After graduated from University of Oregon Law School in 1997 and passing the State Bar exam, I opened my own law office practicing different areas of law including family law, landlord/tenant law, business law, personal injury law, and other areas. After three years I did my first several bankruptcy cases. I really enjoyed the practice area and enjoyed helping people with their finanical problems so I decided to focus my law practice on the consumer bankrupty law area.
What types of customers have you worked with?
People who needed to get rid of their debt that was stopping them from achieving their financial goals.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has a lot of experience and where consumer bankruptcy is one of their main areas of law practice. Choose someone who spends the time to answer your questions. Look for quality because that will make your experience better and produce a better outcome for you.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Think about whether you can pay your debt off in 1 - 3 years. If you can perhaps you do not need to file bankruptcy. However, if the realistic answer is "no", then exploring your bankruptcy options makes sense.
