Emma Schmidt & Assoc. Sex + Relationship Therapy
About
Emma Schmidt & Associates restores relationships for individuals and couples who are facing a big challenge—maybe they’re even at the end of their rope, struggling with their sex life. We understand that sex and relationship issues can be embarrassing and awkward, but we remove the shame and stigma from the situation and create an environment of openness and positivity. Our clients are seeking a stronger bond with their partners; we invite them to share their struggles and worries—and to come as they are. We humanize the issues our clients are experiencing and use an evidence-based approach to work through their concerns. This results in them rediscovering hope and strengthening the bond in their relationship, leaving them feeling empowered to sustain connection.
I enjoy sitting with people in a place that can feel really uncomfortable and helping transition them into a place of feeling empowered and secure in life. Sex and intimacy should be something we experience in a healthy, non-shaming way, yet many of us don't know how to access that space. I love being able to dive into those places and come along aside an individual or couple to get out of those negative spaces and into something that feels more connecting, peaceful and fun.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Clients schedule either via email or on the phone with Emma for one of the clinicians on her team. Emma then sends an email with information about how to access our electronic health records system to fill out the necessary paperwork for the fisrt session.
This is how sessions are typically laid out:
First session: Presenting problem, we want to know what all has been going on up this this point and why this is the right time to seek this type of therapy (one session fee).
In-between your first and second session: We spend time looking through your sexual history assessment and write down any additional questions we have. This takes us about an hour. (one session fee)
Second session: This is when we go through those extra questions together we have regarding your history to help us know how to most effectively help you (one session fee)
Third session: This is where we game plan and put together goals for what the sessions will look like moving forward based on what we have learned about you and what we feel will be most helpful. This will set the stage for what each session will look like moving forward (one session fee).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am licensed as a professional counseling and am certified as a sex therapist and certified as a sexual addiction specialist. I also have advanced training in Emotion Focused Therapy for working with couples.
