What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initial interview to agree on scope of work and the best way forward.

I don’t waste people’s time. If I can’t help, I tell them at no cost who can.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Three-plus decades of lawyering in a wide array of cases. Now I try to focus on avoiding Estate, business and real-estate problems.

How did you get started in this business?
I learned how to get straight facts as a reporter who triangulated news through 3 independent sources.
While covering courts and doing hard/real news, I came to admire earnestly ethical attorneys.
So I decided to go from journalism to law. In both businesses you might aggravate people. Hopefully, as a lawyer, you get paid better.

Young families, people with disabilities, veterans who are combat-wounded, free work for various outreach groups.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I sold 3 houses in 3 days. In one of those, my clients left the historic-district home vacant and unlocked.
“The ghosts in the attic will protect it.”
Months later, the buyers sheepishly admitted to smelling cigar smoke at 3 pm every Sunday in the front room. Neither smoked.
Other than that, any spirits from prior owners let them be.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask for real-world experiences and inquire carefully to ensure a good fit.
Do your homework on whatever you need the attorney to accomplish.
Don’t hire a lawyer who doesn’t get back to you the same day - or evening if needed.
Ask if they are available weekends or after-hours.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Decide your optimal desired outcome, ask the attorney to rate your likelihood of success — and at what cost.
