Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Hoyt Law Office is available 24/7 by phone. When you call you will speak to an attorney, not a secretary or paralegal, you will get expert legal advise immediately. Evening hours are also available for clients that work during the day. Service is our primary goal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
AS a Certified Public Accountant with a Masters Degree in Business Administration, I have experience and understanding in all business matters.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is difficult because there are attorneys that low ball people to get the case then charge them a lot of money to continue on the case. I try to flat fee my cases as much as I can but some cases are difficult because you don't know how much opposition you are going to get from the other side. If you get a low baller on the other side that does a lot of stupid stuff to generate more fees, it hurts my client who has to respond.
How did you get started in this business?
I was a business executive and legal cousel for several large corporations. When I openned my own law practice, started doing family law because my accounting back ground is a great for protecting the financial assets of my clients. Also for criminal law, my business background is a natural for white collar crime defense.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have represented all types of clients in business, family, crimianl and injury law. I have represented both men and women in divorce cases. I have had latino clients that did not speak english well. Each and every client is differnt and efforts have to be made to really understand their needs. If an attorney does not have time to personally sit and talk with you and personally take your phone calls, you better get another attornye.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The greates compliment I can have is when a client referrs another person to me. Recently I had a client say that his friend that reffered him to me said "you may not like what Hoyt has to say because he gives you the good and the bad on your case. But when he is in court he will focus the court on what is important and get right to the heart of the matter and get your case across to the judge."
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Be sure you have good communications with your lawyer. Be sure he understands your problems and apprciates them. If he doesnt answer his own phone and give you a direct number he doesnt have time for you. If he doesnt have time for you then he will not understand your issues.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Ask you attorney or any one your asking advise from for an evaluation of the problem you have and what are your options for dealing with it. Remember you are the decision maker and you can only make good decisions when you know all the options you have.
