Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have a free 30 minute initial consultation during which I get the facts of the case and review any paperwork that is brought in. I then let the client know the cost of my services. If they choose to retain, I prepare a retainer agreement for their signature, make copies of their paperwork and begin to work on their case.
Throughout my handling of the case, I contact my client regarding new developments or communications with the court or the other party. If there is documentation received regarding the case, I immediately contact the client and discuss how to handle the ifnormation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am licensed to practice law in New Jersey, The majority of my career has focused on family law, with a concentration in domestic violence. I have worked as a domestic violence advocate for the Camden County Women's Center and provided domestic violence training to schools, police departments and domestic violence response teams.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I have three levels of services-full representation, pro se assistance and a la carte service.
Full representation includes court appearances and preparing paperwork on behalf of my clients. For civil cases, the cost of full representation depends on the legal issue, number of parties and status of case and varies from $1500-$10,000. For criminal cases, the cost of full representation depends on the crime alleged and the court in which the matter is being heard and varies from $600-$25,000.
A la carte service is a pay per service option. Instead of one lump-sum retainer, clients are able to pay per service rendered as the service is rendered. A la carte service is generally $250-$1250 per service, depending on the type of service and the time required for the service.
Pro se assistance is one where the office provides in-depth review of paperwork prepared by the client, preparation for court and/or copies of paperwork needed for the client to pursue the case on their own. The cost of that service ranges from $250-$750.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Hire the lawyer with the experience you need for your case. If you are looking for a lawyer to handle your divorce, hire a lawyer who does family law or divorce law on a fairly regular basis. Do not hire a criminal lawyer or a tax lawyer to do your divorce or custody or domestic violence case. Each area of law has specific rules and procedures. If the person you hire is not familiar with those rules and procedures you may not get everything you could or should receive out of your case.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do I trust the pro I am speaking to?
Does the pro make me feel comfortabe?
Does the pro se explain things in plain English?
Is the pro going be accessible when I need him/her?
Can I afford to pay all of the costs associated with my case?
