About

ChristieLegal stands out because I can handle many family law cases in a more peaceful and much less costly way than any attorney will. I, Christie Lea Thompson, as ChristieLegal have been doing family law paralegal work at 1/3 of the cost of an attorney charges for 5 years. I can handle many types of child custody, divorce, and grandparent visitation cases. I even helped a couple who had recently immigrated from Venezuela and 1 of the parents neglected the children to the point that an Order for Protection was necessary during the divorce negotiations divorce from start to finish. I can handle uncontested or joint custody and divorce cases from start to finish 100% of the time. I have offices in Cottage Grove and Mankato.

I love to help people get out of romantic relationships that aren't a positive part of their life, not only for themselves, but also their children. I enjoy doing this because I know from personal and professional experience that the person who you partner with is the most important decision that you'll make because that person can be the sunshine of your life or the darkness that haunts your soul.

She knows how to make you feel comfortable and I trusted her. She had things completed when promised and made the process as easy as possible. Her pricing is way cheaper then working with a lawyer.

Christie was such a great resource. We had our divorce details figured out and needed someone to write up the documents. Christie was quick to complete the required paperwork, provided detailed instructions on filing and was able to answer many questions.

    - I earned a B.A. in Political Science Public Service and minor in Legal Studies from Hamline University in 1995. My intention was to go on to law school, but I decided to attempt to pursue working in politics first. During my college years, I participated in Mock Trial and my team went to the Regional Competition each year. - I earned a Paralegal Certificate from Hamline University in 2009.

In 2012, a friend met a family law attorney who needed a paralegal. I applied for the independent contractor position. The attorney taught me most of what I know about family law. A few years ago, she moved to Boston because her husband was transferred to work there. In 2014, an attorney mediator contacted me on LinkedIn and offered to refer his mediation clients to me to write their divorce or custody documents after they mediated an agreement. He still refers folks to me.

I've worked with people whom are as young as 25 years old and as old as 67 years old. I've worked with people whom cannot afford an attorney through Tubman Family Alliance and people whom earn a great deal of money. I've worked with people whom have important positions in businesses / nonprofit organizations, including a finance manager at a wealth management business. I've worked with people of all races, including immigrants from Venezuela, India, Bangladesh, and Laos. I was the Vice Chair of the Cottage Grove Human Services Human Rights Commission from 2014 to 2016 and had been a member for 8+ years.

I helped a couple who had recently immigrated from Venezuela divorce. They wife became uncooperative very quickly. The husband waited for the wife to cooperate for 1 month. I wrote the divorce documents as him requesting the divorce. Shortly thereafter, she put the children in danger, so the husband obtained an Order for Protection for the children. She cooperated with the divorce process, and the divorce documents were written to allow her parenting time every other weekend, but that would stop if she put the children in danger again.
