Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In person interview covering a variety of subjects and providing a roadmap for the client.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 32 years of experience. Not only am I in court on virtually a daily basis, I have tried many cases to verdict and have handled appeals (both as the winner and loser at the trial court level). I also teach continuing legal education courses, teaching other attorneys about the latest changes in the law.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Normally, with a contested matter involving children, I ask for a retainer of $3500. If it is uncontested (both parties agree and no fights to be had), I typically charge $1500. If matters are extremely contentious, with a lot of accusations and fighting, the retainer can me much higher.
Each case is different, and my charges will be related to the level of time needed, the possibilty of multiple court appearances and motions, and the willingness of the parties to agree (or not).
How did you get started in this business?
In my first job out of school, I found myself hiring many lawfirms. It quickly dawned on me that being one would be far more rewarding professionally and personally. I put myself through school at night, working full time during the day.
Over time, I found the practice areas that suited me and which I really enjoy.
What types of customers have you worked with?
In the past, I used to represent large corporations and insurance companies. Over time, I decided that helping the little guy was far more enjoyable. I still represent solo and small companies, although most of my practice is with individual persons needing legal advice and representation.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I settled a case (favorably) which had a complex set of facts, and an injured 12 year old girl. I managed to prove that a company's recommendations led directly to her severe injuries. Both parents have repeatedly stated how happy they have been with my services.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Do not be afraid of asking questions. The only stupid question is the one that is not asked. You are looking for an expert with experience, knowledge, training and an honest approach. By asking questions, you will learn what the attorney can do and see if I would be a good fit.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
A clear idea of what result they are seeking.
The expected cost of the services.
The length of time the process can take (it will vary from case to case).
The experience of the attorney involved
The impact of special unexpected issues, or issues that a party needs to share with an attorney.
