Dr Jo Ann Atkins

Thank you for checking me out! I hold a Doctorate of Ministry and a Masters in Psychology. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Pastoral Counselor. I am also a Certified Couples Therapist. As your counselor, I focus on your counseling goals and concerns. I provide tools to help gain self-understanding, change behavior, conflict resolution, restore hope, and gain spiritual empowerment. With COUPLES, one of my strengths is teaching effective communication skills. We work to understand "Daddy Issues", grief and loss, and the pain of rejection. Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do. A safe and compassionate place to unpack the troubles, burdens and desires for change you have been carrying.

As African-Americans, we are the last to seek counseling due to fear of unknown, being a "private person," and denial of the need for help. Making the choice for help with our problems is taking a brave stand. Deciding to try something different and new is a crucial aspect of emotional and physical health.

We all possess the potential for emotional well-being, deserve inner peace and strength. Wanting an instant fix is common but often not obtainable without professional support and time! You must be willing to do the work. Take confidence in knowing your situation is real. Safe, non-judgmental, unbiased care is just a call away.
