We love what we do, fighting aggressively to hold negligent individuals and corporations responsible for their actions. I say that no one can outwork my husband and me because we continue to strategize about cases after the workday has ended.
I like digging for dirt on the defendant and uncovering the right evidence to score points for our side. If the case does not settle pre-suit, we take multiple depositions, cross-examining witnesses to let the defense team know we mean business.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We typically have a phone call with the potential client to discuss the facts of the potential case to see if it is the type of case in which we feel like we can lend our expertise.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993 and have been practicing law since that time. Annually, I attend 12 or more continuing legal education courses to stay abreast of changes in the law.

We handle our cases on a contingency fee basis, meaning a client does not owe us an attorney fee unless there is a settlement or verdict in their favor. The contingency fee varies depending on the facts of the case and the complexity of the matter.
How did you get started in this business?
It is a funny story. When I was a teenager, I would want to do certain things. My dad would ask why I thought I should be able to do them. I would then typically give him 4 or 5 well-reasoned responses (so I thought) as to why I should be able to get my way. One time he said, you should be a lawyer! That prompted my interest and I've never looked back.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have represented many many victims of personal injury and wrongful death. The causes of injury/death are varied and included auto/truck accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability, negligent security (bad crime/inadequate security), nursing home cases, etc.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We currently represent a client who was in the hospital and was internally bleeding for hours before someone finally paid attention to his vital signs and took him to surgery. As a result of sustained low blood pressure over many hours due to the internal bleeding, he had reduced blood flow to his kidneys and ended up being on dialysis for several years. We recently settled part of his case for him and he was able to get a kidney transplant and come off dialysis.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are speaking to an attorney who is not afraid to try your case if the case does not settle. There are many attorneys who call themselves trial attorneys but have never tried a case. The defense attorneys and the insurance companies know this and realize that attorney will take less to settle a case than actually be forced to try it.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
When speaking to a potential attorney, they should ask:
Will I be able to speak to an attorney about my case if I have questions? There are many law firms where the client really only speaks to the legal assistant or paralegal, rarely speaking to the attorney about his/her case.
If I leave a message or send an e-mail, how soon after should I expect a response.
In our law firm, you can always speak to an attorney about your case and we try to get back to all clients within 24 hours, however many times it is the same day.
